Kutztown University and the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center (PGCHC) present “Civil War Viewpoints,” a five-topic discussion on Civil War including the “Pennsylvania Dutch” during the war, Civil War medicine and surgery, cavalry, infantry, and the role of women during the war, on Sunday, July 29, 2-5 p.m. in the Kutztown Park band shell on Main Street in Kutztown. Co-author of “Damn Dutch,” Dr. David Valuska, former executive director of the PGCHC, focuses on the role of the Pennsylvania Dutch during the Civil War and the effects of their contributions. The Kutztown Public Library will distribute free copies of “Damn Dutch” to the first 40 participants. Building Envelope Inspections - Beginning on Aug. 3, an engineering company will be performing a water infiltration study on six buildings on campus. They will be accompanied by a contractor who will be performing some sampling of walls and roofs as part of the envelope inspections. This is the tentative schedule:

Tune in on Wednesday, Jul. 25, during Mike Regensburger's show "Monsoon Mike's Community Jukebox" for not one, but TWO special interviews! At 2 p.m., catch New England-based jazz pianist Walter Duda chatting with Mike. Walter has a new CD out entitled "Kindred Spirits," and it's truly fascinating to hear how Duda's style has evolved over the years. Later on at 3:30 p.m. a very special interview with Ms. Pennsylvania Senior America Linda Bullock from Fleetwood. Ms. Bullock works at the Topton Lutheran Home and her platform as Ms. Pennsylvania Senior America is helping older people with Alzheimer's and dementia. Tune-in for a truly special "Monsoon Mike's Community Jukebox" 1-4 p.m. tomorrow.

ESS/SAP training for Purchase Requisitions and Storeroom reservations - The ESS portal is an alternate/user friendly way to put your purchasing requests and reservations into SAP. Annual fire sprinkler inspections and testing in residence halls, education and general purpose buildings will be performed by Kistler-O’Brien Fire Protection beginning Monday, Jul. 23, through Friday, Aug. 17. While most work will be transparent to the building occupants, inspection personnel may be observed checking sprinkler components located in corridors, stairwells, mechanical rooms and closets. This work will also include internal inspection of piping in various sections of Old Main, as well as testing of the fire pumps in those buildings so equipped. The inspectors will be in company uniform displaying the Kistler-O’Brien logo. We appreciate your cooperation during this important process to ensure proper operation of these safety systems.
