Construction on Main Street/Kutztown Road in Kutztown -- The
start of the excavation has been postponed until the beginning of next week. The
trench will be on the north side of the street as it passes through campus. It
will only move to the south side of the street after it has passed through
campus (west side). During the day the road will be open, but flagman will be
directing traffic. The road will be opened fully at the end of their shift each
day. Tom Green, director, Facilities Energy Management and Campus Utilities Storeroom Inventory - The University Storeroom will be conducting our annual inventory the week of Jun. 11 through Jun. 13. During this time, the storeroom will be unable to make campus deliveries. While the storeroom is conducting inventory, the SAP System will not allow users to process material reservations online -- it is important that campus users refrain from attempting to use the material reservation transaction codes during this time. (The transaction will not only be rejected but it will also have an impact on the storeroom inventory process.) The storeroom will begin running the necessary transactions in preparation for inventory at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jun. 8. The system will resume accepting material reservation transactions beginning on Thursday, Jun. 14. If you have any questions, concerns, or emergency needs during this time, please feel free to contact Tim Good, storeroom supervisor at x3-4139 or via email at good@kutztown.edu. He will be responsible for securing major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations to support university, college and foundation priorities. He will assume the responsibilities formerly held by Ms. Barbara Walczak, who recently retired from the foundation. Philip graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and earned his master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. Philip can be reached by phone at x3-4110 or email at irwin@give2ku.org. Please join me in welcoming him to Kutztown University. Jason Ketter, executive director, KU Foundation & Alumni Engagement KU's new computer testing center opens this week! The Stratton Computer Testing Center is in the Stratton Administration Building. It is one of only a few commonwealth locations available to administer tests required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for educator certification. Testing begins in June and will be available year-round to university students, alumni and community members. To register, test-takers visit: http://www.pa.nesinc.com. KU Career Development Center The Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center presents center’s inaugural volume publication - The Friend in Need: An Annotated Translation of an Early Pennsylvania Folk-Healing Manual, by KU's Patrick J. Donmoyer. Nearly 200 year ago, the legendary Berks County author Johann Georg Hohman published "The Friend in Need" in 1813, the precursor to America's most popular work of powwow, folk healing, and magic, "The Long Lost Friend," compiled in 1819. This obscure piece of Berks County history is now available for the first time in English, allowing readers access to historical prayers, benedictions and charms used in early America for healing and protection among the Pennsylvania Dutch. With complete annotations, numerous illustrations and tables, this work is a wealth of information concerning the origins and history of the folk tradition of powwowing in Pennsylvania, and it is available just in time for its bicentennial release at the Kutztown Folk Festival. For more information on the publication, please contact the PGCHC at x6-4166 or heritage@kutztown.edu.
