In Case You Missed It:
(Announcements and other information that have previously appeared in the Daily Brief.)

I am delighted to be able to tell you that Dr. Michelle Kiec has accepted the offer to become the associate dean for the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Dr. Kiec comes to us from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, where she has most recently served as the coordinator of Assessment and Accreditation and prior to that, as the chair of Department of Music, which had 17 faculty. She has extensive teaching experience, including experience at Clarion University from 1998-2000. Michelle earned a Bachelor of Arts in German and a Bachelor of Music in saxophone performance, graduating magna cum laude from SUNY Buffalo. She earned her master's in music and her doctorate of Musical Arts in clarinet performance from Johns Hopkins University, Peabody Conservatory of Music. Dr. Kiec has also been a very active presenter and performer. I know that you all will join with me in welcoming Dr. Kiec when she starts here on Aug. 27!

I would like to thank all of those involved in the search process, particularly, Dr. Peg Speirs, who chaired the search committee for this position, and the members of the search committee who devoted a great deal of their time to the selection process for this very important position and milestone in the evolution of the college.
William J. Mowder, dean, College of Visual & Performing Arts

It has been my extreme pleasure and privilege to work at KU for the past 38 years! Thank you so much for the fabulous retirement parties, extravagant gifts, kind words, and, most of all, your friendship. When I got here so many years ago, I would never have realized how connected I would be to such a warm community of students, faculty and staff. A very special thank you to the Department of Mathematics for the wonderful journey. I will miss you greatly.
