Domestic Violence in the GLBTQ Community Discussion - As loving as many GLBTQ couples appear, there are those who suffer from domestic violence. In this eye-opening discussion, learn about the impact of abuse within the GLBTQ community, how to spot the signs of abuse, and which tools you can use to help put an end to the violence on Monday, Apr. 2 at 6 p.m. in the GLBTQ Resource Center, OM 4. Allies' Seventh Annual Drag Show: Drag Evolution - It’s that time of year again. Experience the evolution of Drag in Allies’ seventh annual spring Drag Show on Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room (MSU 218). Tickets are available at the Student Union Building’s Info Desk: $5 with student I.D. and $10 for all others. All profits are donated to the Trevor Project and the Attic Youth Center. Celebrate Women’s History Month at the Women’s Center film festival! Today the Women’s Center will be hosting the screening of four films in the Alumni Auditorium, MSU 183. The festival will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a screening of "Mona Lisa Smile", a comedic drama about an open-minded professor (Julia Roberts) at a women’s college in the 1950s, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. From 3-4:30 p.m., "14 Women", a documentary following the 109th Congress that included an unprecedented 14 women holding Senate seats, will be screened. "Erin Brockovich", a comedic legal drama portraying the true story of how a file clerk in a lawyer’s office defeated the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, will be shown from 6:30-8:45 p.m. "My Week with Marilyn", a film chronicling a week in the life of Marilyn Monroe during the production of her 1957 film, "The Prince and the Showgirl", will be the final movie of the night starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 10:45 p.m. For additional information or questions, please contact the Women’s Center at x3-4655.

Spring Graduation Festival - KUSSI is sponsoring the Spring Graduation Festival on Apr. 2 and 3 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room, MSU. Please encourage all graduating seniors to attend this one-stop graduation shop. They will be able to purchase their caps & gowns at a special Graduation Festival price, receive graduation tickets, and visit with various campus departments and outside vendors who can assist them with a variety of needs associated with graduation. PASSHE's Interdisciplinary Association for Philosophy and Religious Studies 25th Annual Conference is here this weekend - lots of interesting papers to be presented! You’re welcome to attend even if you have not pre-registered. However, please note that students do not pay the registration fee. All others need to pay a registration fee of $35, due on arrival at the conference. Also, if you’ve not pre-registered, we cannot provide Saturday lunch for you.

 

Facilities Move: In preparation for continued construction work at the Facilities complex, some Facilities offices and services currently located in the Facilities (Maintenance) building on Baldy Street will be temporarily relocating. These offices and services will relocate temporarily to Old Main I Wing in the space previously occupied by the Health Center. The move will take place during the week of Apr. 2. Support areas involved in the move include Facilities administration, Key and Lock shop, custodial services, University Architect, and the Work Control Center. During this time, services provided by these areas will be limited to emergencies. A Facilities representative will be available by telephone (x3-1594) to handle emergencies from 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. during this period of time. Emergencies outside of these times should be called to Public Safety (x3-4002).

Routine requests can continue to be entered online via I-Service desk and maintenance services will continue to operate normally during this time. We appreciate your patience and look forward to serving you from our new location in Old Main I wing after Apr. 6.

Kutztown University Off-Campus Advisory Council (OCAC) and Kutztown Community Partnership (KCP) hosts the "Keepin' it Kutztown" Annual Community Block Party on Sunday, May 6, noon to 4 p.m. on the 100 - 200 blocks of Main St. in Kutztown. Come out for live entertainment, free food, arts & crafts, and activities from a rock wall to a moon bounce. OCAC and KCP are looking for student volunteers as well as organizations and companies to purchase a table to promote at the event. The Off-Campus Advisory Council is hosting its Annual Arbor Day on Apr. 15, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Kutztown Park. Volunteer to help beautify the park by planting trees, or make a $10 donation for a tree. All sponsors who donate a tree will be recognized at the event. The Annual Saucony Cross' Senior Prom hosted by the Off-Campus Advisory Council (OCAC) will be held on Tuesday, Apr. 17, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Saucony Cross retirement home main office (next to the cliffs). Come volunteer for our "Under the Sea" prom which includes free dinner, dancing, music and prizes! There will be a professional photographer available to take pictures of individuals and groups. America Reads will be hosting its annual spring event on Mar. 31, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in MSU 218. Its theme will be Dr. Seuss' "If I Ran the Zoo" and will be offered for children in the local community. The Lehigh Valley Zoo will be having a presentation of animals from 10-11 a.m. There will be free food, fun and games and every child leaves with a free book.

2012 Diversity Conference Interfaith Panel Discussion - Friday, March 30, 11:15-12 - The Kutztown University Commission on Human Diversity will be hosting a conference on March 30th titled “Interfaith Perspectives for Community, Peace, and Social Justice”. The commission seeks interested students from our campus community to share their interfaith story as part of a panel discussion. On Thursday, Mar. 29, at 11 a.m. in the KU Planetarium, students and faculty of Digital Arts, Electronic Media, Communication Design, Art, Film, Music and Theater are invited to the lecture/demonstration on “Integrating Visual Media as Performance.” Squonk Opera’s artistic directors Jackie Dempsey and Steve O’Hearn will discuss the creation of their original shows with new real-time visually based performance forms, demonstrate the process where media, staging and design are all developed concurrently, and show video selections.

Squonk Opera’s Performance of "Mayhem and Majesty" will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Ursa Minor’s Café in the MSU. KU Student tickets are $5 and available at the MSU Information Center.

The Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry has announced its 2nd annual Business Idea Competition with a Mar. 30 deadline. The annual Business Idea Challenge encourages local college students to consider and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, particularly in the technology field. The competition is open to students from Albright College, Alvernia University, Kutztown University, Penn State Berks and Reading Area Community College. Last year’s winning team was from Kutztown!
