KU softball pitcher Samantha Derr tossed her 28th victory of
the year to become the KU single-season record holder for wins in a season, en
route to defeating fourth-seeded Indiana (Pa.) 5-2, Sunday afternoon in the NCAA
Atlantic Regional 1 Site Championship. The Golden Bears (48-4 overall), who are
ranked third in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 poll,
also tied the school record for wins in a season with their victory on Sunday.
Kutztown advanced to the NCAA Atlantic Super Regionals and will likely host West
Virginia Wesleyan in a best-of-three series, beginning on Friday, May 11. The
winner of the series advances to the Division II Softball World Series in
Louisville, Ky. Sunday's win marked the second time, under the helm of Kutztown
University head coach Judy Lawes, that the Golden Bears have reached the super
regionals.
