Kutztown University’s Latino Business Resource Center and Small Business Development Center in partnership with National Penn Bank and the Latino Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the graduation of 24 entrepreneurs from their eight-week bilingual program entitled “Business Skills for Success for Latino Entrepreneurs.” The program is tomorrow Thursday, May 10, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza in Wyomissing. The event is being sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Reading.

Congratulations to Dr. Christopher Bloh and Dr. Anke Walz who have been selected to present remarks at this weekend’s commencement ceremonies. Dr. Bloh will speak at the morning ceremony; Dr. Walz in the afternoon. In keeping with tradition, the speakers are selected based on nominations submitted by the senior class.           

Blandon-resident, Dr. Christopher Bloh, associate professor of Special Education, has been with the university since the fall of 2006, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.  His area of interest is applied behavior analysis, specifically, verbal behavior. He helps prepare future teachers to manage their classroom environments.  In addition to preparing future teachers at Kutztown University, Dr. Bloh provides consultation for school districts requiring intensive behavioral supports for their students.  Working with teachers and administrators to increase the communicative ability of students with autism is a passion of his.  Before coming to KU, he worked as a special education teacher for students with physical and cognitive disabilities for the School District of Philadelphia, as an autistic support teacher at the Green Tree School in Philadelphia, and provided direct care for adults with intellectual disabilities in the Philadelphia area. Dr. Bloh received the student-nominated KU Ambassador of Learning award in spring 2009 and was recognized by the Pennsylvania State Senate in 2002 for teaching service to children with autism. 

 Mohrsville-resident, Dr. Anke Walz, associate professor of mathematics, has been with Kutztown University since 2002, and teaches geometry classes for the university. She earned her doctorate from Cornell University and her master’s degree from the Technical University Berlin in Germany. Prior to KU, Dr. Walz served as a visiting assistant professor with Gettysburg College. Dr. Walz has co-published on the interactive rendering of n-Dimensional Polyhedra, the Bellows Conjecture and also “Defending Einstein” Hans Reichenbach’s Writings on Space, Time and Motion. She is a member of the Mathematical Association of America, the Association of Women in Mathematics and serves as a manuscript reviewer for The American Mathematical Monthly. Dr. Walz is an honorary member of Delta Phi Alpha, the German Honor Society.

Strawberry Trifle:
1 large angel food cake
8 oz pkg of cream cheese (softened)
14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups heavy whipping cream
2 tbsp of sugar
10 oz bag of frozen halved sweetened strawberries (thawed)

Cut angel food cake into 1 inch pieces (the size of a walnut). In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk until smooth. In another medium bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream and sugar until stiff. (This will take a while.) In a clear bowl or trifle bowl, layer your dessert starting with the angel food cake first, the cream cheese mixture second, strawberries and then the whipped cream. The final layer should end with the whipped cream on top. Serves 16. Enjoy your summer!


On Monday May 14, 2012 construction will begin at Stratton Administration Building to renovate and upgrade the university Data Center. As a result, the south entrance (from the parking lot) to the building will be closed and the north entrance along Main Street will have to be used to enter & exit the facility. Also, there may be some parking restrictions and temporary traffic delays as contractors mobilize to the site. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as we make these improvements.

After winning the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional 1, KU hosts West Virginia Wesleyan in the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional best of three series on May 11-12 at North Campus Field. Kutztown is currently ranked third by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and tied the school record with its 48th win of the season. The WV Wesleyan Bobcats are 40-12 and won the Atlantic Regional 2, hosted by California (Pa.).

Lost and Found: If you lost something on campus this semester, please stop by the Communication Center in Public Safety to see if it was turned in. We receive Lost and Found items frequently from different campus locations. Even if you have checked on something earlier in the semester, please check again! KU Dining Services - Kutztown University Dining Services Office is announcing to the university community that Viewpoints dining area, upstairs in the South Dining Hall, will no longer be available for eating in beginning this summer. Meals purchased at the Southside Café will remain in this area. Beginning this summer Viewpoints will be available to university offices and programs for meeting/meal use similar to using conference room A and B though the conference services reservation process.
      

KU Dining Services – Green Meal Tickets

The green meal tickets that are currently being used at the South Side Cafe will expire May 31, 2012.  Any unused meal tickets that are left can be returned to Tammy Moyer, Purchasing Dept., 223B Stratton Administration Center along with the PO number that needs to be closed for those tickets. Starting June 1, 2012 through May 31, 2013, the new meal tickets will be orange.
