Pennsylvania Dutch Dinner & Entertainment at Glieder Fescht - Please join the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center on May 14, at 6 p.m. in MSU 218 for our 18th annual Glieder Fescht. Speaker Michael Werner, editor of Hiwwe wie Driwwe, will talk about Pennsylvania Dutch culture in comparison to that of the Palatines in Germany. Musical entertainment will also be provided. Cost is $25 per person and includes a family-style dinner. On the menu for the evening is marinated chicken breast, country sausage, spinach salad with hardboiled egg and hot bacon dressing, cottage cheese and apple butter, dried corn, potato rolls, green beans and potato filling. Beverages include unsweetened iced tea, water, and coffee. For dessert, choose from delicious shoofly or apple pie. The following project work will be starting the week of May 14: 1.The construction fence at Schaeffer will be expanded. As a result, the sidewalk between Schaeffer and the President’s residence will be closed and the sidewalk between Boehm and Schaeffer will also be closed. To access north campus you will need to either travel along College Boulevard or along the west side of Boehm. 2. Renovations to Lehigh Hall. 3. Renovations on the south side of Stratton Administration Building. 4. Renovations to Beekey rooms 119, 120, 121, & 121A. 5. Renovations to DeFran rooms 2 & 26. 6. Repairs to the exterior walls and loading dock area of Boehm. The following project work will be starting the week of May 21: 1. O’Pake Fieldhouse floor replacement. The field house and adjacent lot will be closed. 2. Re-surfacing of the tennis courts. Courts will be closed until June 15. 3. Renovations to RLC rooms 123 & 126. Finally, the week of May 28, demolition of the old Heat Plant and adjacent garages will begin. As a result of this work there may be temporary vehicular and pedestrian pathway closures. Don’t Throw That Out - Monday, May 7 - Friday, May 11 (final exam week), the Women’s Center will be collecting food, household goods, linens, paper goods, art supplies, toys, toiletries, feminine products, baby supplies, and new and used clothing for local agencies. Dr. Bloh will speak at the morning ceremony; Dr. Walz in the afternoon. In keeping with tradition, the speakers are selected based on nominations submitted by the senior class. The results: 1st Place: Sarah Hess – Strawberry Trifle 2nd Place: Jason Ketter and family – Blueberry Surprise 3rd Place: Kay Apple – Cake Pops Strawberry Trifle: 1 large angel food cake 8 oz pkg of cream cheese (softened) 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk 2 cups heavy whipping cream 2 tbsp of sugar 10 oz bag of frozen halved sweetened strawberries (thawed) Cut angel food cake into 1 inch pieces (the size of a walnut). In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk until smooth. In another medium bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream and sugar until stiff. (This will take a while.) In a clear bowl or trifle bowl, layer your dessert starting with the angel food cake first, the cream cheese mixture second, strawberries and then the whipped cream. The final layer should end with the whipped cream on top. Serves 16. Enjoy your summer! On Monday May 14, 2012 construction will begin at Stratton Administration Building to renovate and upgrade the university Data Center. As a result, the south entrance (from the parking lot) to the building will be closed and the north entrance along Main Street will have to be used to enter & exit the facility. Also, there may be some parking restrictions and temporary traffic delays as contractors mobilize to the site. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as we make these improvements. Lost and Found: If you lost something on campus this semester, please stop by the Communication Center in Public Safety to see if it was turned in. We receive Lost and Found items frequently from different campus locations. Even if you have checked on something earlier in the semester, please check again! It’s possible an item you checked on before may now be in our Lost and Found inventory. Our office is located in the basement of OM, Room 15. We will donate unclaimed items by May 18, 2012. The University Storeroom will be closed May 14-15 as it moves into the new Maintenance Building. There will not be any deliveries on these two days, so please plan accordingly.
