The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Mar. 20 (snow date: Mar. 21). We are expecting 28 high schools and 16 middle schools from Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton Counties. There will be more than 600 students competing in a variety of science disciplines such as biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers, and technology. Check out our website at http://www.kutztown.edu/acad/physci/olympiad/ . You do not need a science background to be a volunteer. We need help with registrations, lobby info, food sales/delivery, set-up, scoring, event assistance and so much more. If interested, contact our volunteer coordinators: Dr. Daniel Aruscavage aruscava@kutztown.edu and Dr. Gregory Setliff at setliff@kutztown.edu.

Faculty wanted for judging, scoring data and for the Appeals Board. A science background is not necessary. Are you good at understanding and enforcing rules? The Appeals Board will arbitrate issues between supervisors and coaches over rule disputes. Faculty interested should respond to scienceolympiad@kutztown.edu.

February is Traumatic Brain Injury Month. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is damage to the brain caused by a blow to the head. The severity of the injury may range from minor, with few or no lasting consequences, to major, resulting in profound disability or death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1.4 million people suffer TBI each year in the United States and about 50,000 people die from the injury. Estimates of the number of people who have survived a TBI range from 2.5 million to 6.5 million. The range is broad because mild TBI often goes unreported. A newsletter regarding TBI as well as other wellness opportunities can be found on the H.R. website under the Healthy U logo.

Have you always wanted to get to know other members of the campus community? Would you enjoy being treated to lunch? The office of the Provost will be sponsoring lunches for small groups that include a combination of KU students, faculty and staff. (Dr. Vargas will not be in attendance at these lunches.) The goal is that these individuals will get to know one another and, in turn, become more knowledgeable about the members of our campus family. So that there is no financial strain on the individuals, the group will be given a money in the form of a Paw Pass to be used at a venue on campus.

Are you available at noon on a Tuesday or Thursday? Or at 11 a.m. on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday? These are times that are most likely that a group of 3-4 people would be able to get a table in the Cub Cafe or Academic Forum. Sign up on KUnited by visiting http://kunited.kutztown.edu and clicking on "Meet and Eat!" at the top of the page. Please use your full KU email address to log in, and your email password. You will be contacted with the information of the others you will be eating with so you can schedule your lunch. Thank you for your participation!
