Social work professionals serve as catalysts to build and strengthen alliances that promote effective and ethical healthcare practices across the practice continuum. We invite community leaders, agency executives, policy makers, social workers, human services professionals, faculty, alumni, and students. Full-day attendees receive six social work continuing education credits, including three ethics credits. To register by Mar. 8, please visit http://socialwork.kutztown.edu. Questions? Please contact Dr. Sharon Lyter, forum chair, lyter@kutztown.edu or x3-4235. February is Traumatic Brain Injury Month. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is damage to the brain caused by a blow to the head. The severity of the injury may range from minor, with few or no lasting consequences, to major, resulting in profound disability or death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1.4 million people suffer TBI each year in the United States and about 50,000 people die from the injury. Estimates of the number of people who have survived a TBI range from 2.5 million to 6.5 million. The range is broad because mild TBI often goes unreported. A newsletter regarding TBI as well as other wellness opportunities can be found on the H.R. website under the Healthy U logo. Jean E. Adam for Campus Wellness Committee Have you always wanted to get to know other members of the campus community? Would you enjoy being treated to lunch? The office of the Provost will be sponsoring lunches for small groups that include a combination of KU students, faculty and staff. (Dr. Vargas will not be in attendance at these lunches.) The goal is that these individuals will get to know one another and, in turn, become more knowledgeable about the members of our campus family. So that there is no financial strain on the individuals, the group will be given a money in the form of a Paw Pass to be used at a venue on campus. Are you available at noon on a Tuesday or Thursday? Or at 11 a.m. on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday? These are times that are most likely that a group of 3-4 people would be able to get a table in the Cub Cafe or Academic Forum. Sign up on KUnited by visiting http://kunited.kutztown.edu and clicking on "Meet and Eat!" at the top of the page. Please use your full KU email address to log in, and your email password. You will be contacted with the information of the others you will be eating with so you can schedule your lunch. Thank you for your participation! Leah M. Cassellia, director, Office of Student Involvement The Department of Philosophy is pleased to announce that it is celebrating Socrates Day on Feb. 18.
