KU Muisc Faculty
Four Kutztown University Department of Music faculty performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall on Feb. 9.

The Case Ensemble featuring new music by Craig Biondi, Alphonse Izzo and Aleksander Sternfeld-Dunn includes performers Jeremy Justeson, saxophone; Susanna Loewy, flute; Daniel Immel and Maria Asteriadou, piano.

The professors talk about preparing for the concert, the dress rehearsal at KU, what it means to perform at Carnegie Hall, and how KU's faculty are as committed to their students as they are to performing.

The Vagina Monologues - The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (FMLA) and the Women’s Center present The Vagina Monologues on Thursday, Feb. 21 and Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the MSU Multipurpose Room, 218. Tickets are on sale at the MSU Information desk. For credit card purchase, please call x3-4092. If not sold out, tickets also will be sold at the door. Tickets are $5 with KU Student I.D. and $10 for all others. All proceeds are donated to organizations that promote anti-violence against women and girls, including Berks Women in Crisis, Planned Parenthood, and the V-Day International Spotlight.  Department of Social Work 11th Annual Community Forum, Healthcare Policy Implications Across the Practice Continuum, Mar. 15, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Forum 2013 raises awareness of up-to-date healthcare delivery, policy reform, and ethical issues across levels and systems of care.  Senior Class Undergraduate Commencement Speaker - Application Deadline: Friday, Mar. 1 - Applications will be accepted from graduating seniors cleared to walk at the spring 2013 commencement ceremony. In order to be considered for this distinction, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

-have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 entering the spring 2013 semester
-demonstrate service to the university community and demonstrate a record of good university citizenship and cooperation (presence of these qualities shall be demonstrated in the application process and letters of recommendation)
-demonstrate evidence of meaningful co-curricular involvement
-be in good disciplinary standing

In addition, each candidate must submit a completed application available at: http://www2.kutztown.edu/events/commencement/for-students/student-commencement-speakers.htm. Finalists will be chosen to participate in an interview process to determine the candidate of choice who will be expected to provide a brief address (approximately 3-5 minutes) at the spring 2013 commencement ceremony.

As part of the celebration of Black History Month you are invited to the 2013 National African American Literature Read-In to be held in the Alumni Auditorium (MSU 183) from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18. Sponsored by the Department of English and hosted by Dr. Ellesia A. Blaque, all are invited to read or recite works of African American literature or perform their own poetry. Drinks and snacks will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.
Kutztown University's Department of Music is proud to host its inaugural Woodwind Day on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The daylong event will feature workshops and master classes with KU faculty, as well as guest artists “Project Trio” and oboist, Nobuo Kitigawa. “Project Trio” (featuring the Beat-Box flutist, Greg Pattillo) will perform that evening in Ursa Minor’s Café at 7:30 p.m. Woodwind Day is free and open to all interested high school and college wind players. Thank you to all faculty, staff and student volunteers and participants who worked to make Transition Academy Day on Feb. 13 an interesting, informative and welcoming day for 45 eleventh graders with disabilities and high school staff. This program was a collaborative effort of the Berks County Intermediate Unit’s Transition Coordinating Council, Berks County high schools, Kutztown University and RACC.

The Game Of Life will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in MSU 218. This is an information session that is being held to give students more information about living off campus. There will be free food and prizes.

The Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities application process is in full swing at KU! To date, we have received more than 60 applications. The deadline to apply is February 22, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. All recommendation forms from faculty and staff members must be turned in by that day and time. Any forms turned in or received past that deadline will not be accepted, so be sure to allow for appropriate time for campus mail delivery, or hand deliver forms directly to the Office of Student Involvement, 153 McFarland Student Union.
