Talk on "African Americans and Islam"
on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in MSU, Alumni
Auditorium. The speaker is Imam Anwar Muhaimin, the Imam of the Reading Mosque
and a leading expert on Islam and African Americans. Chris Saidi, assistant professor, History As part of the ongoing campus wellness initiative, we are pleased to offer programs that cover healthy eating, exercise and lifestyle habits that may reduce the risk of chronic disease. The next program being offered is “Strides For Life”. Registration runs through Mar. 1, with a program start date of Mar. 4. Information on this program as well as the other programs being offered is available on the H.R. Website. For those employees with Healthy U wellness program (non-PEBTF members), completion of programs offered will earn points (as indicated for each program) toward completion of 2012-2013 Healthy U requirements. New show at the Brick Wall Gallery - Janine Ngai "impressions" displaying her photographs at the Brick Wall Gallery now until Mar. 6. Delilah Miske and Molly Metz, gallery coordinators The Annual Big Band Bash is coming to the MSU on Friday, Mar. 8, at 7:30 p.m. New this year: A pre-concert reception (6 – 7 p.m.) to meet the artists and listen to KU Jazz Studies combos while enjoying refreshments and appetizers, reserved seating, a set performed by vocalist Cathy Chemi and trumpeter Skip Stine, (Cathy is the KU Jazz Vocal coach an alumnus of the fabulous Harry James Orchestra and Skip was a member of the Harry James and Frank Sinatra Orchestras, to name a few). Desserts, coffee, tea, etc., during the performance. As always, there will be dancing, a couple jokes from Joe Piscitelli, and an all-around good time. All proceeds raised will support the KU Jazz Studies Scholarship Fund. Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead: The Frank Meeink Story - Frank Meeink became a Skinhead at 13. By 16, he was the leader of a Skinhead gang that beat people indiscriminately. By 18, he was thrown in prison, where he began to question his hatred as he befriended men of different races. This live lecture on Thursday, Feb. 28 in MSU 218, at 11 a.m. will break your heart and put it back together again as you listen to Meeink’s journey from hatred to harmony. The goal is that these individuals will get to know one another and, in turn, become more knowledgeable about the members of our campus family. Wanamaker, assistant professor, Rohrbach Library On Wednesday Mar. 13, Kutztown University Art Education students will facilitate Reggio Emilia art centers at The Independent Space, 19 East Main, Kutztown. The centers will be directed at child-centered divergent thinking and problem solving where 3-6 year old children will engage in discovery for 45-60 minutes. There are two different sessions (different centers) offered from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and 3:30 4:30 p.m. This is a free event for the children.
