Yo Pal” Hal Elrod, Motivational Speaker - Hal Elrod became “Yo Pal Hal” when he hosted his first radio show at 15. By the time he was 19 years old, Hal became an all-time record-breaking sales rep for a $200 million company. Then, at 20, he was hit by a drunk driver at 70 mph. On Tuesday, Mar. 5 in MSU 218 at 11 a.m. and in MSU 183 at 7 p.m., Hal will explain how he triumphed over all the challenges he encountered after the accident as well as show you how to overcome your challenges. Bookstore Customer Appreciation Event – Join us for our first-ever Frozen Beach Bash on Tuesday, Mar. 5 at the KU Student Bookstore. This is an all-day event filled with discounts, raffles and giveaways. All customers can spin our prize wheel and receive a free prize or discount on apparel and gift items. Second Nature will be hosting a product sampling from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. We will have $1 Rita's in your favorite summer flavors, starting at 11 a.m. From 2 - 5 p.m., stop by and make your very own flip book with our Pepsi Flip Book Machine. Ghost World, featuring paintings by Jake McCauley, is the new show in the Student Union Art gallery until Mar. 13. The opening reception is tonight from 6 - 7 p.m.

Department of Social Work 11th Annual Community Forum, Healthcare Policy Implications Across the Practice Continuum, Mar. 15, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Forum 2013 raises awareness of up-to-date healthcare delivery, policy reform, and ethical issues across levels and systems of care. Experts in healthcare identify best practices.  Full-day attendees receive six social work continuing education credits, including three ethics credits. Distinguished Service Award nominations – The Commission on the Status of Minorities encourages any member of the campus community to nominate a faculty or staff member, or student to receive the Distinguished Service award. The award recognizes individuals who go beyond their normal duties to promote an environment of cultural acceptance and inclusion, and demonstrate leadership in addressing/supporting multiculturalism and retention on campus. The Annual Big Band Bash is coming to the MSU on Friday, Mar. 8, at 7:30 p.m. New this year: A pre-concert reception (6 – 7 p.m.) to meet the artists and listen to KU Jazz Studies combos while enjoying refreshments and appetizers, reserved seating, a set performed by vocalist Cathy Chemi and trumpeter Skip Stine, (Cathy is the KU Jazz Vocal coach an alumnus of the fabulous Harry James Orchestra and Skip was a member of the Harry James and Frank Sinatra Orchestras, to name a few). Desserts, coffee, tea, etc., during the performance.

As always, there will be dancing, a couple jokes from Joe Piscitelli, and an all-around good time. All proceeds raised will support the KU Jazz Studies Scholarship Fund. College of Visual & Performing Arts Faculty First Thursday! Valerie Trollinger, associate professor of Music Department, will present “5000 Languages, 5000 Ways to Sing?” on Thursday, Mar. 7 at 11 a.m. in Sharadin Art Building, room 120. Valerie Trollinger will present research concerning the history of singing predominantly addresses the use of singing as a cultural phenomenon rather than as a physiological one. Do we really have 5000 ways to sing as well? Come to the presentation to find out!

March is Women’s History Month - The Women’s Center will be hosting events throughout the month that highlight the journeys and hardships women have endured to gain equality. It is a time to remember the contributions women have made throughout history, and to promote equality of the sexes everywhere.

Women’s Rights and Position in Islam - On Monday, Mar. 4, at 3 p.m., in the AF 101, Kutztown students and staff are invited to learn about controversial issues Islamic women face on a daily basis.

Prom Dress Collection
- Please join the KU Women’s Center and Fairy Godmothers Inc. of Berks County to help make someone’s life sparkle. We are collecting prom dresses from Mar. 1-15 to benefit Berks County youth. Donations are preferred in new or nearly-new condition (no older than five years), and may include formal dresses (long and short), cocktail gowns, shawls and wraps, small handbags/clutches, jewelry, or new & unopened cosmetics. Donations can be dropped at the Women’s Center Oasis, OM 3, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., or at the front entrance of the Saint Christopher Catholic Newman Center.
