hosted a welcome reception for international scholar Dr. Jun-yi Ren on Tuesday.

Dr. Ren, a professor of Management Science at Yantai University in China, will

conduct research at KU through August 2013. If you would like to welcome Dr. Ren

National Student Exchange (NSE) placements for 2013-2014 have been completed. Please join us in congratulating Thalia Cepeda for her placement at Florida International University in spring 2014 and Shannon Wilson for her placement at the University of Hawaii at Manoa for fall 2013 and University of New Mexico for spring 2014. KU will also potentially host NSE students from Minnesota State University Moorhead, Sonoma State University (California), University of Northern Iowa, and University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in the 2013-2014 academic year. Placements are still available for 2013-2014, so please encourage your students to consider this program for a unique study away experience. The next University Curriculum Committee (UCC) meeting for the 2012-2013 academic year will be held on Mar. 28. The deadline for submission of all proposals for this meeting is 12 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, Mar. 14. Please submit new proposals prior to this deadline to the UCC secretary, Bethany French, in the Provost’s Office, 309 Stratton Admin. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. French at x3-1312. The Events Advisory Council (EAC) has established the deadline
for early consideration for room reservations & activities scheduled for the 2013-2014 academic year as March 15, 2013 (at 4:00pm). The detailed procedures for registering events/facilities can be found on-line at the Conference Services website (http://www.kutztown.edu/admin/confServ/reserve/preregistration.asp). Departments and organizations may submit early registration requests for their events by using the EMS Web Requester. Reminder - any early registration request for a student organization must be submitted by that organization’s advisor. Schaeffer Auditorium is scheduled to be back on line at the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester and is available for reservations requests during this early reservation procedure.

The GLBTQ Resource Center Celebrates Women's History Month - Please join us for a screening of "A Marine Story" on Wednesday, Mar. 13 at 6 p.m., in the GLBTQ Resource Center, OM 4. The drama follows the life of a decorated female Marine officer, who although discharged because of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, found other ways to serve. A short discussion will follow the screening.

On Wednesday Mar. 13, Kutztown University Art Education students will facilitate Reggio Emilia art centers at The Independent Space, 19 East Main, Kutztown. The centers will be directed at child-centered divergent thinking and problem solving where 3-6 year old children will engage in discovery for 45-60 minutes. There are two different sessions (different centers) offered from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m. This is a free event for children.

Distinguished Service Award nominations The Commission on the Status of Minorities encourages any member of the campus community to nominate a faculty or staff member, or student to receive the Distinguished Service award. The award recognizes individuals who go beyond their normal duties to promote an environment of cultural acceptance and inclusion, and demonstrate leadership in addressing/supporting multiculturalism and retention on campus. MyKU will be unavailable on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 8 a.m. through Sunday, Mar. 17 at 1 p.m. because of a comprehensive software upgrade to the system. We will be applying the PeopleSoft “Peopletools 8.5.2 Toolkit”, which provides required PeopleSoft functionality for Kutztown. An email will be sent when the system is available after the upgrade.

On Saturday, Mar. 16, thirty-three Kutztown students will be leaving for the Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program. They will spend a week building houses with Habitat for Humanity in TN, WV, and NC. They have each paid a program fee and participated in fundraisers for the opportunity to do service for others for the week. They will be staying in cabins, church basements, etc. Every year we like to send each group (4 groups) of students with a token of appreciation and to show support from the staff and faculty of Kutztown University. If you would like to participate we welcome a variety of snacks (granola bars, trail mix packets, crackers) and drink boxes (the type to go in lunch boxes) that they can take to the work sites each day, as well as breakfast items (breakfast bars, pop tarts, fruit, cereal-on-the-go boxes/bowels, etc.) that they can eat before they leave each morning. If you would like to contribute items, please bring them to the Community Outreach Center  in MSU, anytime this week, Mar. 11-15. Any amount is welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.

Kutztown University has been awarded a Healthy Lifestyle Grant from The Pennsylvania Faculty Health & Welfare Fund. Faculty are invited to participate in a 30 minute Body Pump Express class on Tuesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.  Classes start today and will run through the end of the semester. No membership is required. The grant will cover the expenses for the instructor, the equipment, and room rental fee. Those faculty who are not members of the Student Recreation Center will only have access to the locker room and the class. Body Pump Express is designed to improve muscular strength and endurance, body composition, and body density and is adapted to all fitness levels. Dress in your workout cloths and sneakers and come when you can. If you have any additional questions, please contact hayduk@kutztown.edu.



It’s a Kutztown University night at Berks Jazz Fest! KU’s Jazz Ensemble will be performing with Grammy award winner Kurt Elling on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at the Miller Center for the Arts in Reading. The GLBTQ Resource Center presents "Toasting Equality: The Activists Behind The Movement" at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 14. Join us in the GLBTQ Resource Center (OM 4) for Part 3 of Lifting the Veil, during which we will recognize and discuss some of the inspirational individuals and political figures behind the fight for marriage equality.
