WHAT is going on?
Many of you have used Blackboard (Bb), which is a learning management system (LMS) where students can interact with their instructor, class materials, and classmates using a computer and an Internet connection. On May 24, 2010, Desire2Learn (D2L) will officially replace Bb as PASSHE's Learning Management System.
WHY Desire2Learn?
In the summer of 2009, an 18-member, system-wide Evaluation Committee was created based on Presidential nominations to complete a review of Learning Management System use across the fourteen universities. This group’s charge was to evaluate proposals and live demonstrations from responding suppliers. This review was completed in December 2009, and the committee’s decision was to award the LMS contract to Desire2Learn.
WHEN will it happen?
Effective June 11, 2010, access to Blackboard will no longer be available. Bb will continue to be used for the remainder of the spring 2010 semester.
Students will have access to Desire2Learn one day prior to the start of the next semester. For example, students will have access one day prior to the first day of summer I, first day of summer II, fall, etc.
ALL summer courses will use the new learning platform.
WHERE can I access D2L?
D2L can be accessed at https://desire2learn.kutztown.edu
Your username will be the same one you used in Blackboard, which is the first part of a student’s email address (without the @live.kutztown.edu). However, your password will be set according to the following formula: first four characters of last name (in caps) + date of birth in YYYYMMDD format (example: SMIT19901128). It is important to change your password immediately after your initial login.
WHO can I contact for help?
Two help center contacts are available. The IT help center is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and can be reached at extension: 31511 or by email: helpcenter@kutztown.edu. In addition to the IT help center, Perceptis will be available beginning May 7, 2010 for 24x7 support.
IMPORTANT NOTES OF INTEREST!
- Access to Desire2Learn will be available to students a day or two prior to the first day of summer courses.
- Change your password immediately after your initial login.
- If you used any “drop-box” features in Blackboard, your content will not be saved to Desire2Learn. If you wish to retain that content, it is your responsibility to save/download it.
- Watch for up to date news regarding login information, help center resources, system maintenance or other pertinent information to be posted at the D2L login site: https://desire2learn.kutztown.edu.
