Conference Overview

The Pennsylvania Art Education Association is proud to bring its annual conference,  Neo-Renaissance:  Designing Connoisseurship With Community Resources to the greater Lehigh Valley in October of 2000.  Our organizational mission for this conference is to demonstrate, promote and support the interconnectedness within our community and the arts.  The arts do not exist in isolation; therefore, Neo-Renaissance will showcase exemplary Lehigh Valley art resources, programs and organizations to art educators from across the Commonwealth who attend the event. The conference will headquartered in the Allentown Hilton. Preview these community resources that involved in "Neo-Renaissance:" Allentown (The Baum School of Art , A Walking Tour), Bethlehem (Zoelner Arts Center, The Banana Factory, A Walking Tour), Easton (The Crayola Factory, A Walking Tour ).

Major events of the conference that are already planned, include:

  • An opening reception at the Two Rivers Landing in Easton – The Crayola Factory and the Canal Museum. 
    The Vision of Jim Henson Exhibit.

  • Carol Sterling, Director of Programs and resources at the International Sculpture Center, Hamilton, New Jersey.  

  • Eric Booth, noted author and art advocate; 

  • National Art Education Association President, Dr. Eldon Katter, Professor Emeritus of Art Education, Kutztown University and Editor of School Arts Magazine; 

  • Internationally renowned sculptor Jesus Morales from Texas who tests the limits of stone with sculptures created from torn and polished granite; 

  • A reception at Cedar Crest’s College Lachaise Gallery; 

  • A reception and exhibition of work by Nick Cave will be held at the Allentown Art Museum;  

  • In addition there will be organized tours to highlight the wealth of noted public art, historic architecture, university museums and galleries, art schools, commercial galleries as well as educational facilities and resources throughout Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton.

The Allentown Hilton will serve as the focal point for conferees to participate in conference activity.  Those activities include: the presentation of scholarly work and research, recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of art education from among its members, and the acknowledgment of significant contributions and collaborations by a “Friend of Art Education”.
