Spring 2021 Dining Services Plan

Kutztown University Dining Services is committed to the safety and well-being of the students, faculty, staff and employees as we plan to return for the spring semester. As in the fall semester, Dining Services will remain fully focused on food safety and sanitation, including additional safety processes and protocols that follow federal, state, local, Aramark and Kutztown University guidelines to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19. The plan will adapt to the guidelines and protocols as they are updated, and decisions are made at the university level. 

Dining Services continues our commitment to be a trusted authority promoting a safe food service environment within a holistic student-friendly atmosphere, and with a cost-effective approach. 

Service Dates:

Meal Plan Begins – Lunch: Friday, Jan. 29, 2021
Meal Plan Ends – Dinner: Friday, May 7, 2021

General Procedures and Guidelines: 

  1. Signage
    1. Dining Services will implement consistent communication with guests and team members through supporting marketing documents will include appropriate signage to be strategically placed throughout the dining venues to communicate appropriate physical distancing and effective traffic flow. This communication includes social media, floor decals, COVID safety signage, directional signage and digital messaging screens.
  2. Physical Distancing
    1. Dining Services will implement physical cues, including floor decals, where possible for employees and customers to maintain a six-foot distance while in the dining spaces. All guests are reminded to physically-distance whenever possible.
  3. Facial Coverings
    1. Facial coverings are required for all Aramark employees during their shift and are part of their uniform. Aramark will provide a mask for each employee.
    2. Students must wear a facial covering while in the dining facilities, including while waiting in line, ordering, picking an order up and disposing of trash. The covering may only be removed while seated and eating a meal.
    3. A student will be refused entry and service if they are not wearing a facial covering properly.
  4. Physical Barriers
    1. Physical barriers in the form of plexiglass will be installed to separate the customers from employees in order to reduce transmission risk. Stanchions will be used to guide the customers through the dining venues and to aid in physical distancing.
  5. Occupancy and Capacities
    1. The capacity limits of dining spaces will be maintained based on the current Pennsylvania COVID-19 Phase Guidance for Restaurant and Retail Food Industry. 
  6. Dining Experience
    1. Touchless payment and mobile ordering will be used whenever possible. In the Academic Forum Food Court, Chick-Fil-A, York Street salads and sandwiches, Zoca (Mexican-style) and Pizza will only be available by mobile ordering. Learn more about mobile ordering.
    2. Self-serve areas will be replaced with fully-served stations.
    3. Seating will follow the physical distancing guidelines and tables will be clear for ease of cleaning and sanitizing. 
    4. Beverage areas are self-service with additional safety precautions, including increased frequency of disinfecting, single use cups and Nano-Septic Self-Cleaning Strips.
    5. Condiments and silverware have been relocated and are provided at each station upon ordering.
    6. Napkins, disinfecting table wipes and hand sanitizer stations are available for guest use through all locations.
  7. Dining Services Employees
    1. All employees will be subjected to a health screening prior to the start of each shift, which will include questioning and temperature checks.
    2. All outside vendors will be required to wear facial coverings and may be subject to health screenings.
    3. Employees will be trained on additional health and safety issues regarding the current health crisis, which will include facial coverings, disposable gloves, sanitizing and disinfecting, and chemical usage. 
    4. All employees are required to wear the issued facial covering at all times while in the building and working, except for while seated, drinking or eating in designated spaces. 
    5. In the event of an employee probable or confirmed case of COVID-19, Aramark will follow the state recommendations for a probable or confirmed case and Aramark Health Screening Guidance.
  8. COVID-19 – Customer Policy 
    1. In the event of a student with a probable or confirmed case who is in quarantine or isolation, Dining Services will follow the Meal Delivery for Quarantine Purposes procedure to support the safety and welfare of the campus community.
  9. Sanitation 
    1. Additional employees will be staffed to increase the frequency of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting dining areas, including seating tables, bathrooms, handles and other customer and employee high touchpoints. 
    2. Additional chemicals targeted on sanitizing and disinfecting will be stocked to be used by customers and trained employees. This will include additional hand sanitizing stations, disinfecting wipes for food contact and non-food contact surfaces, disinfecting chemicals, and tabling sanitizing wipes.

    1. The first floor will be dine-in with take-out available upon request.
      1. Monday-Sunday, 7 a.m. to 1 a.m.
    2. The second floor will offer all-you-care-to-eat dine-in options with physically distanced seating available throughout all available dining spaces.  
      1. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
      2. Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    3. The gaming tables, computer and gaming lounges will be temporarily unavailable during the semester.
  2. Cub Café 
    1. Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
    2. Saturday-Sunday, Closed
  3. Starbucks 
    1. Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
    2. Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
  4. Academic Forum 
    1. Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    2. Saturday and Sunday, Closed
    3. In the Academic Forum Food Court, Chick-Fil-A, York Street Sandwiches and Salads, Express Meals, Zoca (Mexican-style) and Pizza will be available only by mobile ordering. Ordering assistance is available. Learn more about mobile ordering.
  5. Academic Grounds (Academic Forum), Closed
  6. Book and Brew (Library), Closed
  7. Smoothie Bar (Student Recreation Center), Closed 
  8. Catering 
    1. A range of individually packaged meals and buffet style offerings will be available during the semester, in accordance with university guidance related to COVID-19.
