Employee of the Month (July 2016 to June 2017)

To recognize current university employees who have served Kutztown University in an exceptional manner by exemplifying outstanding service through his or her work and exhibiting a positive and supportive attitude.

Nominations are collected from students, faculty and staff, and the Employee of the Month is selected by the Human Resources Advisory Council. A winner will be selected each month and out of the 12 monthly winners one will be selected as Employee of the Year. The Employee of the Month will receive a plaque, reserved parking and a $100 monetary gift sponsored by Dr. Hawkinson.

  •  June 2017 ★ Dorothy Siravo 

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Dorothy Siravo for being named the June 2017 Employee of the Month.

    Dorothy, Academic Department Secretary in Geography, has been with the university since September 2008.

    According to one of her nominators, “Dorothy is instrumental in helping the department in its mission to promote academic excellence.”

    Upon receiving her award, Dorothy stated that the presentation was, “completely unexpected and such an honor.”

  •  May 2017 ★ Kathy Sue Traylor 

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Kathy Sue Traylor for being named the May 2017 Employee of the Month.

    Kathy Sue, Academic Department Secretary in Communication Design, has been with the university since October 2004.

    According to her nominators, “Kathy Sue truly has a heart of gold when it comes to our students. She goes out of her way to help them in any way she can.”

    Upon receiving her award, Kathy stated that she was “utterly thrilled and overwhelmed.” Kathy Sue also stated that this award means so much to her because she was nominated by her peers.

  •  April 2017 ★ Kathy Loomis

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Kathy Loomis for being named the April 2017 Employee of the Month.

    Kathy, University Registered Nurse in the Health and Wellness Center, has been with the university since February 2008.

    According to one of her nominators, Kathy, “has selflessly served our KU student body by providing kind, competent and compassionate nursing care in an exceptional manner.”

    Upon receiving her award, Kathy stated that she was completely surprised and overwhelmed, “in a very good way.”

  •  March 2017 ★ Sylvia Conrad

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Sylvia Conrad for being named the March 2017 Employee of the Month.

    Sylvia, Clerk Typist in the Registrar’s Office, has been with the university since April 1992.

    According to her nominator, Sylvia, “Has a keen understanding of the cosmic balance between kindness and firmness required to best help our students.” He feels that the Registrar’s Office is lucky to have her.

    Upon receiving her award, Sylvia said that her experience at Kutztown University has been great. She loves working closely with the students, and watching them become alumni.

  •  February 2017 ★ Nancy Scheidt

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Nancy Scheidt for being named the February 2017 Employee of the Month.

    Nancy, Payroll Technician in Human Resources, has been with the university since August 1986.

    According to her nominator, Nancy, “cares about her job and does the best she can do.”

    Upon receiving her award, Nancy said that she was, “200% surprised!” and that this award is so very meaningful to her.

  •  January 2017 ★ Donna Moore

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Donna Moore for being named the January 2017 Employee of the Month.

    Donna, the Academic Department Secretary in Physical Sciences, has been with the university since November 1974.

    According to one of her nominators, “Donna is the heart of our department. She treats students, staff, faculty, and administrators with respect and grace, and is a sympathetic ear for the trauma and drama of the daily life of faculty and students alike.”

    When asked if this award came as a surprise, Donna had this to say, “It’s such a good surprise! They are my family; my daytime family. You do things for your family, and you don’t think anything of it.”

  •  December 2016 ★ Glenn Ruhe

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Kenneth Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Glenn Ruhe for being named the December 2016 Employee of the Month.

    Glenn, a Custodial Supervisor, has been with the university since December 1982.

    According to his nominator, “Glenn’s dedication to the university is seen in the work that he performs on a daily basis, and more by his fellow coworkers, and students. Not only does he support the university’s mission, his work helps support the retention of students.”

    Upon receiving his Employee of the Month Award, Glenn was completely surprised, stating that it was, “unexpected all the way,” but sincerely appreciated.

  •  November 2016 ★ Leah Cassellia

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Kenneth Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Leah Cassellia for being named the November 2016 Employee of the Month.

    Leah, the Director of Student Involvement has been with the university since February 2005.

    According to her nominator, Leah, “always presents herself in a positive way and would be deserving of this recognition just about any time.”

    Leah, upon receiving her Employee of the Month award, was in utter disbelief, stating, “This is the craziest thing that has ever happened to me!”

  •  October 2016 ★ Honey Svoboda

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Honey Svoboda for being named the October 2016 Employee of the Month.

    Originally hired by the KU Foundation in 1992, Honey, the Administrative Assistant in Conference Services, has been with the university since August 1997.

    According to her nominator, Honey is, “a treasure and someone to count on to help your event run smoothly and make it shine!”

    Upon receiving her Employee of the Month award, a teary-eyed Honey said that she is “grateful and overwhelmed.”

  •  September 2016 ★ Andrea Buno

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Andrea Buno for being named the September 2016 Employee of the Month.

    Andrea, the Academic Department Secretary for the English department, has been with the university since February 2006.

    According to her nominator, “Andrea is the embodiment of service, generosity, and commitment that defines the culture of our institution.”

    Upon receiving her Employee of the Month award, Andrea said, “Over the years, we have all gotten so close. The faculty are so very supportive. Thank you so much!”

  •  August 2016 ★ Sharon Young

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Sharon Young for being named the August 2016 Employee of the Month.

    Sharon, the Coordinator of Client Services in Information Technology, has been with the university since January 1990.

    According to her nominator, Sharon is an invaluable asset to KU because she, “gives explanations as to why computer issues may be occurring, and educates you at the same time with helpful hints for you to try, should the issue arise again.”

    Not only is Sharon surprised and happy to be receiving this award, she is super-excited about having reserved parking!

  •  July 2016 ★ Gina Laubach

    Employee of the Month
    Please join President Kenneth Hawkinson and the HR Advisory Council in congratulating Gina Laubach for being named the July 2016 Employee of the Month.

    Gina, a Custodial Worker 1 in Facilities, has been with the university since May 1995.

    According to her nominator, it is rare to encounter an individual with, “a disposition as cheery, an attitude as positive, and a work ethic as strong as Gina’s.” Providing services to the President’s Residence, Admissions, Education House and Old Main, Gina “takes care of KU’s public ‘front porch’.”

    Upon receiving her Employee of the Month award, a surprised Gina said, “I feel like I’ve won the gold medal in the Olympics.”
