Tenure Track Faculty Position in African American Literature

Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 8,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The university is located in the borough of Kutztown in a charming rural setting, and is within 20 minutes driving time of the diverse metropolitan areas of Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and within 60 minutes of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Department of English at Kutztown University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in African American Literature/African American Studies, to begin in August 2024. The Department is open to a range of research and teaching subspecialties. Experience teaching writing is required. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective teaching and fulfillment of professional responsibilities; continuing scholarly growth; and service. Required: a Master's degree and ABD in English, African American Studies, or related field; and PhD in hand by the end of Fall semester 2024 is required. Preferred: an earned Doctorate. The position is associated with a hire in Diversity and Identity, coordinated through the Frederick Douglass Institute (FDI) Scholar's program at the University. As an FDI Scholar, the candidate will mentor students and contribute to a robust program of scholarship campuswide. For the first two years of the appointment, teaching load will be 4/3, including course release for contributions to FDI programming. Beginning in the third year, teaching load is 4/4.
