Tenure Track Position in Art Education (FDI Scholar)

Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 8,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The university is located in the borough of Kutztown in a charming rural setting, and is within 20 minutes driving time of the diverse metropolitan areas of Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and within 60 minutes of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Department of Art Education at Kutztown University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Art Education and Frederick Douglass Institute (FDI) Scholar beginning fall semester 2023. We seek candidates whose research, teaching and/or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse audiences in higher education, and particularly in Art Education. The successful candidate will exhibit a desire and preparedness to participate in the university’s campus culture committed to a diverse, equitable, and accessible environment championing the success of all members of the community. The candidate should demonstrate culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogical and scholarly practice with an emerging research agenda focused on race and race theory.

Responsibilities: The University is interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. As an FDI scholar, the candidate should possess a willingness to work collaboratively with faculty to:

• Promote scholarly research on diversity issues among faculty
• Facilitate dialogue around issues of cultural diversity
• Encourage awareness of cultural diversity in the community
• Foster mutual understanding and mutual respect for diverse cultures
• Develop closer ties and collaboration among KU faculty and students with those in the PA State System of Higher Education

In recognition of this work, FDI scholars will receive a course release in the spring semester during years one and two of their appointment.

The candidate will foster interdisciplinary cross-campus relationships to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds as well as contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising; share expertise and innovative ideas in the development of graduate and undergraduate art education programs; and connect with vibrant local, regional and state-level art education communities. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective teaching and fulfillment of professional responsibilities; continuing scholarly growth; and service. Required: Terminal degree in Art Education or a related field (Ph.D., Ed.D, or J.D.) from an accredited institution conferred by the start of Fall 2023 semester classes; teaching experience in diverse PreK-12 settings such as schools, museum, and/or community-based (three years preferred); and three years of teaching experience in higher education.
