iOS Private Addresses

Apple unveiled a "private address" feature in iOS 14 to enhance security. This feature tells the device to use a different, random MAC (media access control) address for each Wi-Fi network it connects to. By default, the private address feature is enabled on devices running iOS 14.

Two-Factor Authentication: Additional Verification

Two-factor authentication relies on two forms of identity verification: something you know (username/password), and something you have with you (mobile phone). Two-factor authentication can help stop malicious hackers from pretending to be you, because even if they have your password, the odds are that they don't have your device, too.

Office 365: Online applications

Although many students aren't aware, Office 365 provides KU students with a free, web-based version of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. These web-based versions don't provide all the functionality of the full version of Office, but they do allow you to create documents with advanced formatting.

Installing Microsoft Office

The Office 365 subscription afforded all KU students provides the ability to download and install a full suite of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets and 5 smartphones.

Two-Factor Authentication

In order to minimize the threat of potential cyberattacks on student email accounts, the university has implemented two-factor authentication to confirm the identity of anyone logging into KU student email. Beyond verifying a student's username and password (which could be hacked by a cyberattacker), two-factor authentication requires students to set up a second method for verifying their identity.
