Wireless printers

Wireless printers and ResNet

Many personal printers on the market offer wireless printing capability. Although this is a great feature in a home setting, these printers are typically designed to work on a simple wireless network with a single wireless router, and they won't work on a large, enterprise wireless network like we have on campus.  As a result, we advise all residents who have a printer to:

  1. Connect it directly to the computer with a standard USB printer cable.
  2. Disable the printer's wireless signal. Wireless printers are notorious for creating Wi-Fi "noise" which will affect performance of your other devices that utilize Wi-Fi.
