These scholarship opportunities are available to Pell or PHEAA grant recipients who attend a PA State System University and are residents of the state of Pennsylvania, preferably traveling abroad for the first time.

PASSHE Study Abroad Award

Pennsylvania Council for International Education (PaCIE) and the Asia Institute Joint Scholarship

The PaCIE-Asia Institute Joint Scholarship is a $2000 study abroad scholarship open to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students who are studying at a university or college in Pennsylvania and who will be studying abroad, interning, and/or conducting research in Asia

Reading/Reutlingen Fellowship

The Reading/Reutlingen Fellowship is for students in the College of Business who plan to study at Reutlingen University in Reutlingen, Germany during the fall semester. More details on the Reading/Reutlingen Fellowship webpage.

International Studies Abroad (ISA)

All KU students who participate in an ISA program automatically receive a $200.00 discount off the program cost.

College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS)

Students who study abroad through a CCIS program are eligible for CCIS scholarships.


U.S. National Scholarships and Fellowships

Boren Scholarship

The Boren Scholarship offers funding for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. In exchange for scholarship and fellowship funding, Boren Award recipients commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.

The Cultural Bridge Scholarship

The Cultural Bridge Scholarship is administered by Weekend Student Adventures (WSA), who are committed to facilitating life-changing, engaging international experiences. WSA has created this program to provide students the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Europe.

Freeman Award (Asia)

Freeman Awards for Study In Asia (Freeman Asia) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad is Asia or Southeast Asia.

Fund for Education Abroad

The Fund for Education Abroad offers privately-funded scholarships for study abroad, including the Rainbow Scholarship for LGBTQI students and the Hiliary Echo Douglas Memorial Scholarship for students with a love of Vietnam and other cultures.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The Gilman scholarship is for students who currently receive or will receive a Pell grant at the time of study abroad experience. Preference is given to students planning to study in non-traditional destinations, or destinations other than western Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. Additional funding may be available for students planning to study a "Critical Need" language abroad.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant

Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society awards 75 grants of $1,000 each to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad.

BUTEX Scholarship for North American Students

Students accepted to a BUTEX affiliated institution in the United Kingdom (UK) to study abroad for a minimum of one full semester.

Application deadline for 2018-2019 academic year: June 15, 2018

Killam Fellowship

The Killam Fellowship is for students planning to enroll as an exchange student in a Canadian University for one semester or an academic year.


Post-Graduate Fellowships

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships abroad for one academic year to graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals, scientists, and artists. Program participants pursue graduate or professional study, advanced research, or English teaching in elementary and secondary schools or universities. Each year, approximately 1,600 Americans traveling to more than 140 countries receive support from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. You must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application and you must have a bachelor's degree by the time the grant begins.

Rhodes Scholars

The Rhodes Scholars program awards full financial support to study at the University of Oxford to 32 young students from across the United States. U.S. citizens and permanent residents may apply for the U.S. Rhodes program. Citizens of other nations may apply to for a global Rhodes Scholarship.

Schwarzman Scholars

The Schwarzman Scholars program is designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders, Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century. Whether in politics, business or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China's role in global trends.

Enrolling students will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master's Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing - one of China's most prestigious universities. Students will live and study together on the campus of Schwarzman College, a newly-built, state-of-the-art facility, where all classes will be taught in English.

For 2018-2019, applicants holding a passport from any country other than China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao:
