Minor Program in Geography

The Geography Minor allows non-geography majors the opportunity to add geographic techniques and the spatial perspective to their academic resumes.  These techniques and skills are becoming increasingly important in the modern job market for natural science, social science, and business majors alike.

The Kutztown University Department of Geography offers three versions of the Geography Minor.  Each version requires a total of 18 credits.

Geography

This version of the Geography Minor exposes students to the physical and cultural sides of Geography, and to geographic techniques.  This version also includes 9 credits of Geography electives (only 3 of these credits may be of regional geography).

Environmental Geography

This version of the Geography Minor is designed to meet the needs of majors in the biological and physical sciences, but is open to all KU students.  Environmental Geography minors are exposed to physical geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as requried courses.  The remaining 12 credits come from an elective list of Geography courses related to environmental studies, geographic techniques, and planning.

Planning Geography

This version of the Geography Minor is intended for non-geography majors interested in careers in environmental or urban planning.  There are 9 required units designed to expose students to the physical and cultural sides of Geography, and to introduce them to the field of planning.  The remaining 9 credits are selected from a listing of courses relating to environmental and economic considerations in planning, or to geographic techniques essential to the field of planning.
