American Mathematics Competition 10/12 (AMC 10/12)

WHAT are THE AMC 10 and AMC 12?

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 provide an opportunity for high school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN AMC 10 and AMC 12?

Students with a passion for problem-solving who are in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 10.  

Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.

WHAT MATH IS ON AMC 10 and AMC 12?

The AMC 10 covers mathematics normally associated with grades 9 and 10. The AMC 10 assumes knowledge of elementary algebra; basic geometry knowledge including the Pythagorean Theorem, area and volume formulas; elementary number theory; and elementary probability. Topics such as trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry are excluded from AMC 10. 

The AMC 12 covers the entire high school mathematics curriculum including the above as well as trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry but excludes calculus.

WHEN ARE the 2022 DATEs FOR AMC 10/12 AT KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY?

The 2022 dates for AMC 10 and AMC 12 at Kutztown University are Thursday, November 10 (AMC 10A and AMC 12A) and Wednesday, November 16 (AMC 10B and AMC 12B).  Students may choose to participate on one or both dates (please register accordingly).  Both competitions will be held in person at 5:30PM on the competition day in Academic Forum 202.
