Academic Advising

All political science and public administration majors must be cleared by their academic advisor prior to online registration. The academic advising period for Fall 2017 classes extends from Monday, April 3 through Thursday, May 4. Students will register online for courses for the Fall 2017 semester according to assigned times between Monday, April 17 and Thursday, May 4 (except for students who qualify for early registration). For more information on online registration from the Registrar's Office, click here. Please be sure to activate your PIN with the Registrar's office before online registration.

Before meeting with your advisor:

  • Please review your progress toward your graduation requirements. You should have a copy of the appropriate check sheet for your degree program. You can pick up a check sheet outside the Political Science Department office, or you can download the appropriate check sheet from the list of links on the right side of this page. (To access these documents, you need to have the free Acrobat Reader.)
  • Please review the Fall 2017 Schedule of Classes to identify the specific courses and sections you are interested in. You should also identify several alternate courses and sections in case the courses or sections you are most interested in are not available when you register. You can browse all the courses offered at KU for the Fall 2017 semester online by clicking here. You can view brief course descriptions for all political science courses here and looking under the POL subject code.
  • Please make arrangements to meet with your advisor. Advisor assignments are listed on My KU. You can find your advisor's Spring 2017 office location, office hours, phone number and e-mail address here. You may also find a sign-up sheet for specific advisement appointments outside your advisor's office.
