Biographical Statement


Dr. Madrigal has a dual degree from a Bi-national Doctorate Program: a Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work and Comparative Social Welfare Policies from La Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico. She obtained her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from California State University of Long Beach, California, and her BA in communications, with a minor in Psychology from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Dr. Madrigal's social work professional expertise stems from 19 years working as a Child Welfare Worker, both in Chester County, PA, Children, Youth, and families, and 17 years in California with the Los Angeles County, Department of Children and Family Services. Her academic experience consist of five years at San Francisco State University (SFSU), School of Social Work. She has also worked as an outpatient mental health therapist in the state of Pennsylvania. She has her clinical licenses (LCSW) from the states of Pennsylvania and California.

Teaching Interests:

Dr. Madrigal's teaching interests include Social Work Practice, Services to Children, Youth, and Their Families, Child Welfare Policy, and International Social Work.

Research Interests:

Dr. Madrigal's research, scholarship, grant writing and community service interests include but are not limited to: direct practice (e.g., trauma, addiction); mental health and social justice policies and programs that could impact the delivery of services to ethnic/racial minority groups, focusing on the Latino population in the U.S. and globally; human rights violations (e.g., refugees, political asylum, human trafficking, immigrants); international social work, and cultural diversity/multiculturalism.
