Ready to Apply? Follow these simple steps to submit your application to the Department of Art.

Step 1: Apply to the University
Submit an application to directly to the KU Office of Undergraduate Admissions. All incoming freshmen and students transferring from other colleges and universities must apply to the university and submit a portfolio to the Department of Art. However, currently enrolled KU students transferring from another major within Kutztown University do not need to re-apply to the university, they only need to submit a portfolio following the instructions in step two below.
Step 2: Apply to the Department of Art
Submit an online portfolio to KU’s Department of Art using SlideRoom, an online portfolio submission system ($12 processing fee).*
Go to www.kuva.slideroom.com *
Create an account using your primary email address
Select either Studio Art or Applied Digital Arts
Select your application category: Freshman Applicants or Transfers
What goes into YOUR PORTFOLIO? Follow these tips:
- Include photos of your 10-20 best artworks.
- Your images can include drawings, paintings, photographs, printmaking, sculpture, video, collages, mixed-medium works, etc.
- You should include some artworks that demonstrate your composition and color skills.
- If you have three-dimensional pieces, you may include two images of each piece from different angles to better represent the total work.
A faculty committee will review your work to determine if you are prepared for the core foundation courses required during your Freshman and Sophomore years. The committee’s decision is final and will be forwarded to the Kutztown University Admissions Office.* The use of SlideRoom is not mandatory, however SlideRoom must be used to be considered for scholarship. Students may contact the Department of Art about alternate methods of submitting portfolios. Due to the high volume of applications, we cannot offer feedback on online applications.
