Summer Filmmaking Institute

Update: SFI has been canceled for summer 2019. Please look for us again next year!

The Summer Filmmaking Institute (SFI) at Kutztown offers students, of all ages, an introduction to the theories and techniques of digital movie making. Working with state-of-the-art technology, students will design, shoot and edit films of their own creation

Projects focus on equipment and video graphic techniques. Each student will produce their own film and contribute to a larger scale production. The days will include lectures, equipment training, production, editing, and screenings. At the end of the program, the final films are celebrated in a festival screening open to invited guests.

What will I be doing?

Campers will arrive on Sunday where they'll learn the campus and meet other campers. The first day of class will start on Monday morning. Students will create two pieces while at the camp. The first will teach the fundamentals of camera operation and the second will focus on storytelling. We will also discuss the possibilities of life making movies and a possible career in video and/or broadcast.

Students will have the experience of attending a film screening of their films, where they will show their work- filmmakers will be introduced and participate in a Q&A session with the audience!! Also, we will go into the new state-of-the-art KUTV production truck to see how a live broadcast video production works.

Campers will get a piece of the college experience, have fun, but most importantly, learn how to make filmmaking aspirations a reality with new knowledge and hard work!
