Admission Process

Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in Music or Music Education (with or without teacher certification) from a regionally accredited college or university. In order to apply, please submit the following to the Office of Graduate Admissions:

  • The online graduate application
  • An application fee of $35, payable to "Kutztown University"
  • A current professional résumé
  • An official copy of transcripts from each college or university attended
  • A digital video recording of any type of music instruction - formal or informal. At least one excerpt on the video recording should demonstrate the quality of the applicant's musicianship by using their primary instrument/voice to model for students. A link to the video should be submitted along with a written description of contents.

  • In lieu of the digital video recording, two letters of recommendation that specifically address applicant's musicianship and teaching will be considered in assessing the student's potential for success in the program.

A performance audition and the GRE are not required for entrance to the program.

All application materials do not need to be submitted at once. However, the application form, along with payment of the application fee must first be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Once the applicant's packet is complete, the Graduate Office will forward the applicant's packet to the Department of Music for review. In most cases, a decision on the application is made within a few days.
