KU President's International Piano and String Quintet Scholarship

Kutztown University, dedicated to diversity and the fine arts, has designated five full tuition scholarships to attract international string and piano students. Two violinists, one violist, one cellist, and one pianist will form the KU President's International Piano and String Quintet. Members of the Quintet will also be members of the KU Orchestra and perform on and off campus.

To apply, students must complete an application to the University. Application procedures are outlined below:

Apply for Admission to Kutztown University:

  • Submit an official score from one of the following tests. Minimum criteria for admission and English proficiency are listed below:

    • SAT - Total score of 930 for admission; Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 560 for English proficiency
    • ACT -  Composite score of 17 for admission;
    • English/Writing score of 21 for English proficiency
    • TOEFL - Internet-based test Composite score of 79; Paper-based test Composite score of 550
    • IELTS - Overall score of 6.5
    • PTE - Overall score of 53
  • Submit an official transcript (U.S.) or transcript evaluation of secondary school records (outside of U.S.) from WES or a NACES member agency.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities you attended. Transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official word-for-word English translation.
  • Deadlines:
    • Within the US - August Admission: May 1; January Admission: Oct. 1
    • Outside the US - August Admission: June 1; January Admission: Nov. 1

Additional Materials Required

  • Complete audition for Department of Music - submit link to video(s) of yourself performing two contrasting works (YouTube or other online video hosting service)
  • Submit two letters of recommendation addressing your academic, musical, and sight-reading abilities.
  • Write a statement of intention that discusses why you know you are the best candidate for this scholarship program and the President's International Piano Quintet

Financial Considerations

Please note that the scholarship is only for the cost of tuition; you will be required to fund your own administrative fees, room, meals, health insurance, books, and personal expenses. The estimated amount of the expenses for one year, based on 2016-2017 costs, is $17,300. More information about funding requirements is at
