Study Abroad Experience - Olivia Miller

For Olivia Miller, studying abroad was always a dream to pursue while in college, and after learning about the opportunity to study in Germany & Austria her freshman year, she knew it was a chance she couldn't pass up.

She attended every informational meeting, met with the professors advising the trip courses, and was constantly in contact with the financial aid office about her options. However, it wasn't until her sophomore year that Miller finally got all of the resources she needed to attend the program in the summer of 2015.

Although Miller's personal and financial situation wasn't the most ideal to study abroad, she says KU gave her the best option for price and the dates provided for the program.

Miller doesn't believe she will ever be able to figure out what her favorite part of the trip was or what was "most important," however, if forced to choose, it would be visiting Verona and Venice in Italy during her free time.

"Visiting Italy had been a dream of mine since I was a little girl."

The opportunity KU's study abroad program gave her to see a new culture put things in to perspective for Miller, reminding her how big our world truly is and of the endless opportunities life holds for us.

"It reminded me just how small my everyday problems are in the big picture of things and how truly lucky I am to be given the education and provided opportunities from Kutztown."

With a longtime interest in traveling and seeing the world, and with KU's help, Miller says she can't seem to stop.

Her biggest passions have now become all about culture and traveling; she has already been back to Europe since her study abroad trip, she spent her junior year spring break in Spain, seeing Madrid, Toledo, and Barcelona.

Miller has since traveled to Norway and Canada as well as other parts of the United States and a major goal of hers is to volunteer internationally.

She says Kutztown University couldn't have made it easier for her to achieve her goals and make her dreams come true, and she emphasizes the importance of her experience, recommending it to anyone interested.

"Studying abroad is something I will forever suggest to anyone pursuing an education, it was one of the best times of my life and something I will never forget."

Olivia Miller graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology Major with Sociology and Women & Gender Studies minors.
