Bachelor of Arts in:


The Department of History offers studies in a variety of historical fields to prepare students for the Bachelor of Arts degree, the Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, and the Bachelor of Arts degree with Paralegal Studies.

The Bachelor of Arts in History features such classes as History of Civilization, History of the U.S., History of Europe and Seminar in Historical Methodology.

Bachelor of Arts in History with Paralegal Studies

The History degree with Paralegal Studies major is approved by the American Bar Association and taught in conjunction with Lehigh Carbon Community College. The program entails the study of the paralegal profession as well as the limitations imposed by unauthorized practice of law. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to public except as permitted by law.

This paralegal studies track, in addition to the core and elective B.A. in History courses listed above, includes Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Torts and Personal Injury, Civil Litigation & Procedure and Law Office Management.

Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education/Social Studies

Our Bachelor of Science Program in Secondary Education offers qualified graduates provisional certification from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Social Studies Education. Minor in History

Six history courses must be taken. At least nine credits of these must be taken at the 200 level or above.

Career Opportunities
The department has designed a curriculum that prepares students for advanced study at the graduate level. Students interested in a more diverse career track may also apply what they learn to professions in law, government, museum work, and historical preservation. Business and industry commonly employ graduates with a history degree because of their advanced writing, analytic, and research skills.
