Bachelor of Arts in:


Students with a Bachelor of Arts in Music benefit from specialized study in their chosen field. Fundamental classes in subjects such as music history, music theory, aural skills, conducting, and applied music are taught. Music students can then elect to specialize in one of many areas, such as Music Performance, Music Composition, Music Technology, and more. Many students also increase their marketability by combining the B.A. Music degree with a degree in an outside field to complete a double major.  The possibilities include, but are not limited to; Marketing; Communication Studies; Cinema, Television and Media Production; Computer Science; English; Management and Public Administration.

Admission Requirements
Admission to the Department of Music requires prospective students to complete the university application.  Students will be able to select an audition date in the application process. During the audition, students will perform in their area of musical interest and expertise. At the audition, students should be prepared to discuss their musical background, career goals, musical and general areas of interest. Students will also take preliminary diagnostic exams in: (a) harmony and theory, (b) ear training, (c) sight singing, and (d) piano skills. The results determine placement in music courses, and are considered as part of acceptance to the degree program. Students may receive the university's academic admissions decision prior to the audition process. Acceptance decision to the music programs will follow shortly. 

Career Opportunities
Graduates may pursue a career in a wide variety of musical or musical-related fields such as private teacher, performer, composer, conductor, recording technology, music retail, writer, publishing, entertainment management, and music librarianship. Many students also continue their music studies at the graduate level.

Music Education

The music program at Kutztown also offers a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. This accredited program serves teacher candidates who wish to be certified in general, instrumental, and choral music teaching in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Pennsylvania.

Commercial Music

Students interested in the music industry may wish to pursue the Emphasis in Commercial Music.


The Bachelor of Arts in Music with an Emphasis in Music Performance is intended for individuals who aspire to careers performing, conducting, writing or teaching music outside of the public schools.
