Meet some of the Golden Bear community to find out about the opportunities and experiences provided by KU!
Victoria Salazar - Allentown, PA - CHEMISTRY AND GERMAN STUDIES
I've had the opportunity to conduct research since my freshman year, which is extremely important. It allows me to broaden my skills and knowledge in the lab.
I have always seen Kutztown University as a second home. Not only did I see the campus from a personal perspective in my own college search, but I had the opportunity to see Kutztown grow and expand since my older brothers attended KU as well.
I have had many great opportunities since the day I stepped on campus. I’ve done everything from research in biochemistry to joining clubs, both academic and for fun. I’ve met so many wonderful people here, especially some from across the world, and made many great memories.
Stevens Garçon - Breinigsville, PA - CRIMINAL JUSTICE
I chose KU because it was close to home, and it was also the most affordable option.
I am close to my younger sister and cousins, and I wanted to stay around to continue watching them grow. I also enjoy the college town setting. On Main Street, we have shops and there are lots of ways to be involved on campus. I always feel the positive vibes flowing here.
Courtney Morstatt - Topton, PA - PROFESSIONAL WRITING
The professional writing program has some amazing classes, professors, and opportunities, and there are so many clubs to get involved with.
Throughout my entire junior year, I have had the opportunity to work in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean's Office as their writer and editor of The Collage Newsletter. The position has taught me how to interview, write, and publish a professional newsletter. I also love that it allows me to talk with many unique KU faculty and students.
Josh Gonzalez - Bushkill, PA - STUDIO ART
I think the most interesting thing is how much I have learned without even knowing I’m learning. I realized that all the skills I’ve learned within my major, I’ve been able to use pretty much anywhere else. It’s helped me grow a lot!
Upon the end of my first year here, I had a professor come to me and commission me for a body of work that she would be showing in Korea. It was one of my first real commissions and I worked for her throughout the whole summer. It taught me a lot! I was also able to get a scholarship to go away to a craft school in Tennessee completely free.
Tyler Shull - Lancaster, PA - SECONDARY EDUCATION
At KU, I can hold leadership positions in multiple clubs and organizations, enhancing skills I will need as a teacher. The people here are some of the kindest people I have ever met. Ultimately, I chose KU because here, I am given wings to soar and make a difference on a campus I strongly care about, doing things I love to do.
One of my favorite experiences at KU was attending the CASE ASAP Conference with the Presidential Ambassadors Elective Board (I am the Membership Chair of the organization). We attended this conference in Baltimore that focused on philanthropy, promoting your mission, utilizing social media, and more. On the last day of the conference, the KU Presidential Ambassadors presented about an event we organize on campus that connects current students to alumni in their majors.
Marshae Batchelor - Philadelphia, PA - SOCIAL WORK AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE
I chose Kutztown because it provided me with a strong support system before I even committed to the school.
I am involved in several clubs and organizations, which is a lot of fun. Through the Admissions Tour Guide Program, I’ve met my best friend. My membership with the Student Government Board has exposed me to so many forms of excellence through my peers and leaders in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Being able to express my thoughts to people like the Dean of Students simply puts the icing on top. The staff and faculty here make me like I’m right at home. They help me back on my feet with words of wisdom, and that’s what I appreciate the most.
Tu Bang Huynh - Vietnam - ACCOUNTING
I chose KU because of its location and beautiful campus!
Being a summer conference assistant on campus has been my favorite opportunity so far. This job has changed me from a very shy, quiet person to an active, smiley Golden Bear. I’m also a member of the Accounting Club, an Admissions Tour Guide, and a barista at Starbucks.
Abby Johnson - West Milford, NJ - SECONDARY EDUCATION/EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE
I’m proud to be a Golden Bear! During my time at KU, I’ve had the chance to become the best version of myself. Through my studies, I have had the opportunity to use our telescope in the Grim Building to view forming stars and the mountains of the moon. When I’m not stargazing, I enjoy trips to surrounding mountains to hike trails, visiting farms, and I have even been granted special access to areas to collect fossils that are millions of years old!
Nick White - Easton, PA - CINEMA, TELEVISION, AND MEDIA PRODUCTION
After just two years of studying Cinema, Television, and Media Production, I have been able to expand my knowledge of filmmaking and producing. I used my skills to make a promotional video for KU's Office of Admissions among other things that I have never thought I could do. The program gives students the ability to produce a demo reel, showing everything that you have learned from the major. In senior year, you will have an internship either in TV broadcasting, filmmaking, or other media-related topics that increase your chances of getting a dream job.
