Choose KU, Choose the World

Josh WatkinsJosh Watkins at Lincoln Financial Field after the Eagles' 2017 NFC Championship

Kutztown alumnus Josh Watkins's professional career soared after earning his bachelor's degree in electronic media (now known as cinema, television and media production) from KU in Spring 2017. Shortly after graduation, Watkins scored a media production position with the Philadelphia Eagles during the team's Super Bowl victory season, an incredible experience that advanced his job prospects and led to his current position as video editor for MJH Associates in Cranbury, New Jersey. In addition to delving into the ever-evolving medical field at MJH, Watkins creates intricate 3D sets for the company's green screen, edits client videos, and works on the studio floor filming panels.

"My time with the Eagles was nothing short of incredible! Working with a professional sports team was such an exhilarating and fast-paced experience. The fact that I got to journey with them from pre-season to the Super Bowl parade was something out of a dream!" he said.

The KU grad chose the university for its hands-on teaching approach and community feel.  He saw his professors as highly committed and skilled within their trade - attributes that inspired him to be passionate and invested within his major. Starting in his freshman year, Watkins began handling high-end industry equipment. He collaborated with managers and fellow employees in his field and landed an internship as a video production intern with the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League during his senior year. Watkins attributes the success of his professional career to the resources, real-life experiences and the remarkable connections he gained at the university.

"I had so many opportunities and professional experiences at KU, from weekly shows to live sports broadcasting. The professors and staff were always available for guidance."

Watkins still keeps in touch with the KU professors and classmates that became part of his professional network. In fact, those relationships helped secure his first position with the Philadelphia Eagles. Professor and KU alumna Melissa Kelly connected him to the team and he quickly landed a stadium production assistantship charged with creating the awesome ads, player graphics and crowd-hype videos for the home-game jumbotron.

When he continued on to MJH Associates, it was with confidence in his skills, education and network ties.

"No matter who I have talked to and where I have gone, Kutztown graduates always have great recommendations and our name is quite well-known within the industry."
