KU Scholarships

Kutztown University offers scholarships for students in the following categories:

Note: Criteria for each scholarship are determined by donors and recipients are chosen by each department.


The following scholarships are available to qualifying students who have a processed complete FAFSA by KU's priority deadline of January 31. Later applicants will be considered as funds are made available.

FAFSA 500 - $500 one time award for first-time, in-state freshmen

Golden Bear Scholarships (In-state residents only)

  • Maroon - Must have 1080 ERW+M or 21 ACT Composite score and show need; eligible for $1000; renewable
  • Gold -  1170 ERW+M or 23 ACT Composite score and show need; eligible for $1500; renewable
  • Platinum (Debt-free Tuition) - 1080 ERW+M or 21 ACT Composite score, must be PELL eligible and show need. Award amount based on tuition minus PELL and/or PHEAA grant eligibility; minimum award of $1000; renewable. Student may not have a tuition waiver of any kind or a STEM grant.

Award amounts will vary and subject to change as the student's eligibility changes.


KU STEM Scholarship

The KU STEM Scholarship is awarded to twenty-five incoming first-year students who are academically qualified and intend to major in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs and whose backgrounds indicate that the student will make an outstanding contribution to the Kutztown University campus community. Beginning in fall 2017, selected students will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The award is renewable for up to four years of consecutive fall and spring enrollment providing that the student maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, completes a minimum of 24 credits each academic year, and maintains satisfactory academic progress. This award is available only for fall and spring courses.


These scholarships will be automatically awarded to students who qualify:

• The Sesquicentennial Academic Honors Scholarship 

Awarded to high school seniors who have a 3.25 cumulative weighted high school GPA and a 1410 total of the SAT or 30 composite on the ACT. The student will receive $7,000 per year for four years as long as the student participates in the Honors program, lives on campus for the first three years, and completes a minimum of 30 credits per year.

• The President's Academic Honors Scholarship

Awarded to high school seniors who have a 3.25 cumulative weighted high school GPA and a 1270 total of the SAT or 26 composite on the ACT. The student will receive $1,000 per year for four years as long as the student participates in the Honors program, lives on campus for the first two years, and completes a minimum of 30 credits per year.

• The Transfer Book Award

Awarded to all first-time transfer students who enter Kutztown University with any type of Associate's degree. This is a one-time book award of $500 for one academic year (Fall or Spring only) to be utilized in the KU Campus Book Store.


The following scholarships require an additional application and will be selected by a committee. Students will be notified if they are selected. All scholarships are non-renewable.

KU Allentown School District Scholarship

The Allentown School District Scholarship is awarded to four incoming first-year students from the Allentown School District who exhibit promising academic performance as evidenced by a 3.0 or higher GPA in high school at the time of application. Selected students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year of full-time undergraduate enrollment at Kutztown University. The award is non-renewable. This award is available only for fall and spring courses.

KU Reading School District Scholarship

The Reading School District Scholarship is awarded to four incoming first-year students from the Reading School District who exhibit promising academic performance as evidenced by a 3.0 or higher GPA in high school at the time of application. Selected students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year of full-time undergraduate enrollment at Kutztown University. The award is non-renewable. This award is available only for fall and spring courses.

KU School District of Philadelphia Scholarship

The Philadelphia School District Scholarship is awarded to eight incoming first-year students from the Philadelphia School District who exhibit promising academic performance as evidenced by a 3.0 or higher GPA in high school at the time of application. Selected students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year of full-time undergraduate enrollment at Kutztown University. The award is non-renewable. This award is available only for fall and spring courses.

KU Centro Hispano Daniel Torres (Reading, PA) Scholarship

The Centro Hispano Daniel Torres Scholarship is awarded to four incoming first-year students who are affiliated with the Centro Hispano Daniel Torres and who exhibit promising academic performance as evidenced by a 3.0 or higher GPA in high school at the time of application. Selected students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year of full-time undergraduate enrollment at Kutztown University. The award is non-renewable. This award is available only for fall and spring courses.

KU Latino Leadership Alliance of the Lehigh Valley Scholarship

The Latino Leadership Alliance of the Lehigh Valley Scholarship is awarded to four incoming first-year students who are affiliated with the Latino Leadership Alliance of the Lehigh Valley and who exhibit promising academic performance as evidenced by a 3.0 or higher GPA in high school at the time of application. Selected students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year of full-time undergraduate enrollment at Kutztown University. The award is non-renewable.

KU Civic Innovation Scholarship

The Civic Innovation Scholarship is awarded to ten incoming first-year students who exhibit promising academic performance as evidenced by a 3.0 or higher GPA in high school at the time of application and whose backgrounds indicate that he or she will make an innovated civic contribution as a member of the Kutztown University campus community. Selected students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year of full-time undergraduate enrollment at Kutztown University. The award is non-renewable. This award is available only for fall and spring courses.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is awarded to eight incoming transfer students who exhibit promising academic performance and ability to participate in Kutztown University's Honors program as evidenced by a 3.25 or higher transfer GPA at the time of application. Selected students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year of full-time undergraduate enrollment at Kutztown University ($500 will be awarded for the first year of part-time undergraduate enrollment). The award is non-renewable. This award is available only for fall and spring courses. Interested students should complete the scholarship application online prior to May 1 (students applying after May 1 will be considered if funds are available). Preference will be given to students from the following community colleges: Reading Area Community College, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Northampton Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College, Montgomery County Community College, Bucks County Community College, Community College of Philadelphia, Luzerne County Community College and Delaware County Community College. Minimum enrollment of six credits per semester required.
