Athletics Scholarships

Note: Criteria for each scholarship are determined by donors and recipients are chosen by each department.

Athletics

George A. Kruse '77 Scholarship

Established by Barbara Francis-Kruse '79 (wife), family, and friends of George A. Kruse '77 and '90 (Kutztown University Hall of Fame lacrosse player) to provide assistance to an outstanding student-athlete.

Kenneth L. Meyer Cross Country & Track Scholarship

Established by Dorothy J. Meyer '77 (wife), family, friends, and colleagues in memory of Kenneth L. Meyer (former university coach and professor), in recognition of his commitment to academic excellence and athletic ability.  Provides scholarship assistance to junior or senior members of the track or cross country team who have made significant contributions to the team and are of good character.

Damian Mobley/Athletes for Better Education Scholarship

Established by AFBE, Inc., in honor of the late Damian Mobley, former KU student (1997-2000) and men's basketball player (1998-2000), who passed away during his senior year; to provide tuition scholarship to a worthy minority student-athlete of color.

Lloyd A Moll/Jim McGovern Endowed Scholarships

Established by Fran and Ed '42 Osinski (KU Hall of Famer, All-Century athlete, and former wrestling and football standout) in memory of Lloyd A. Moll, former wrestling coach and dean of men, and Jim McGovern, KU Hall of Famer, former athletics director, and football, men's basketball, and baseball coach to provide the wrestling and football programs with a permanent source of scholarship income.  Eligible students will be a member of the KU wrestling team or the KU football team.

Joseph and Carol Patton Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Patton family in memory of Coach Joseph Patton (former KU coach and Hall of Famer), and his daughter, Carol Patton, to provide a scholarship to a football player (sophomore or above) who has demonstrated the ability to make a significant impact on the playing field and has shown a strong commitment to academics.

John Polischak '59 Memorial Fund

Established in memory of John Polischak '39 (former university professor) by Alena P. Zygmunt and Felicia Louer (daughters), to assist Kutztown University students.  Eligible students will be a male involved in multiple sports with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Dennis Roth Scholarship

Established by family, friends, and colleagues in memory of Dennis Roth (retired university administrator and coach) to provide scholarships for deserving students. Eligible students will be a male or female student athlete with all-conference type athletic ability and with an improving academic record.

Women's Track and Field Alumnae Scholarship

Established by track and field alumnae to ensure continued excellence in KU women's track and field. Eligible students must participate in women's track and maintain a 2.8 GPA

Stern/Mathias Tau Kappa Scholarship

Established in memory of Minerva Stern and Ruth Mathias by the members of Tau Kappa to provide a permanent source of funding for outstanding female athletes at Kutztown University.  Eligible students must be a current member of Tau Kappa with athletic eligibility for the coming academic year or an underclassman who is projected to meet the qualifications for Tau Kappa during her collegiate career.

Joshua Wentworth Wesner Endowed Field Hockey Scholarship

Established in memory of Joshua Wentworth Wesner, son of KU field hockey coach Betty Wesner (1980-present) and her late husband Douglas, and brother to Sarah (team member and captain 1997-2000), to provide the field hockey program with a permanent source of scholarship income.  Eligible students will be a Field hockey player entering final year of eligibility who shows a strong commitment to the sport, academics and KU athletics in general.

Walter P. Risley Scholarship

Established by Ethel Risley '31 (wife) in memory of Walter Risley (former KU coach and athletic director; Hall of Famer), to provide scholarships to sophomore, junior, or senior students who are members of the baseball team and have made significant contributions to the team.  The recipient will be nominated by the baseball coach, be a sophomore, junior or senior member of the KU baseball team, and be of good character.

Rodney Hancock Scholarship

Established in memory of Rodney Hancock '97, member of the KU football team from 1992-1996, to provide the football program with a permanent source of scholarship income. Eligible students will be a football player who is an accounting major.

Daniel Hinkel Family Endowed Wrestling Scholarship

Established by Dan Hinkel, professor, wrestling coach (1964-1996) and KU Hall of Famer, to provide the wrestling program with a permanent source of scholarship income.  Eligible students must be a KU wrestler accepted into the College of Education.

Burger King/Robert Holmes Academic Scholarship

Established by Burger King Corporation in honor of Robert Holmes '96, former university student and athlete, in honor of being chosen "Scholar Athlete of the Week", to provide a scholarship to a varsity football player of high academic standing.

Burger King/Jason Stevens Academic Scholarship

Established by Burger King Corporation in honor of Jason Stephens '99, former university student and athlete, in honor of being chosen "Scholar Athlete of the Week", to provide a scholarship to a varsity football player of high academic standing.

Roger Cocivera '56 Scholarship

Established by Roger Cocivera '56 to provide scholarships to a men's basketball student-athlete who has shown a commitment to academics.

Samuel P. Smith Basketball Scholarship

Established by Samuel P. Smith '43 (former president of the Kutztown University Foundation) to provide financial support to a full-time student-athlete who is participating in the men's basketball program.

Coach Lee Hill and Alumni Soccer Players from 1970-1985 Endowed Men's Soccer Scholarship

Originally established by Lee L. Hill, former KU faculty member and hall of fame head men's soccer coach (1970-85), and alumni soccer players from Coach Hill's tenure, to provide the men's soccer program with a permanent source of scholarship income. Eligible student must be a member of the men's basketball team.

Steve Hahn Women's Basketball Maroon & Gold Endowed Scholarship

Established to provide the women's basketball program with a permanent source of scholarship income. Eligible students must be a KU women's basketball player.

Jennie C. Schwoyer 1907 Basketball Scholarship

Established by Samuel P. Smith '43 (former president of Kutztown University Foundation) in memory of his aunt, Jennie C. Schwoyer, class of 1907 to provide scholarship support to a full-time student-athlete who participates or will participate in the women's basketball program.

The Ramona M. McIntyre Memorial Scholarship

Established by the McIntyre family in memory of the late Ramona M. McIntyre, to provide the women's basketball, field hockey, softball, or volleyball programs with a permanent source of scholarship income. Eligible students must be a member of women's basketball, field hockey, softball or volleyball teams and has been officially accepted in the College of Education as a Secondary Education major.

Dorothy Clauser Moyer '59 Scholarship

Established by elementary education emerita, former KU coach, and alumnae Professor Dorothy C. Moyer of Naples, FL and Pottsville, PA, for the purpose of scholarship support for a female scholar-athlete majoring in education.

The Shannon Sullivan '06 Memorial Scholarship

Established in the memory of the late Shannon Sullivan '06, to provide the women's volleyball program with a permanent source of scholarship income. Eligible student must be on the women's volleyball team and show academic achievement.

Mike Kullman '91 Endowed Football Scholarship

Established by brother Sean Kullman in memory of Mike Kullman, former KU player and coach and current Hall of Famer. The recipient must be a defensive football player with principal emphasis given to student-athletes who have demonstrated ability to make a significant impact on the playing field, show loyalty to the sport, and demonstrate commitment to KU athletics in general.

Dr. Robert F. Wolff '55 Hall of Fame Scholarship

Established to provide recognition and financial assistance to an outstanding student-athlete currently enrolled at Kutztown University, who demonstrates character and integrity on and off the playing field, and is in good standing with the department of intercollegiate athletics. Awarded to a student who has completed 30 credits toward their undergraduate degree and has maintained a 3.0 GPA.

David Borden Leadership Scholarship

Established to provide financial assistance to a student-athlete who has shown outstanding leadership qualities at KU, for their team, and in their lives. Consideration will be given to all student-athletes enrolled in good standing at KU.  Preference will be given to student-athletes who have completed a total of 48 credits toward graduation and maintained a GPA of 3.0.

Maurice Saylor '83 and Family Kutztown Football Scholarship

Established to support student-athletes who are in good standing with KU and a member of the KU Football team.

Coach Hinkel Legacy Scholarship

Consideration for this scholarship will be given to current or future Golden Bear wrestlers who show dedicated and demonstrate an on-going commitment to being a well-rounded student-athlete. Must be in good academic standing.

Burger King/Jason Stevens Academic Scholarship

Established by Burger King Corporation in honor of Jason Stephens '99, former university student and athlete, in honor of being chosen "Scholar Athlete of the Week", to provide a scholarship to a varsity football player of high academic standing.

Jennifer Wolfgang Rush '99 Field Hockey Scholarship

Applicants must be currently enrolled or admitted to KU. Recipient must be a member for KU Field Hockey team.

Dr. David E. McFarland Athletic Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Kutztown University Athletic department, to provide the program with a permanent source of scholarship income. Recipients must be an incoming freshman student-athlete who has demonstrated exceptional academic preparation for college or a sophomore, junior or senior who has maintained a GPA average of 3.25 or higher.

Clayton R. '50 and Helen M. Gum Men's Basketball Endowed Scholarship

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Gum to provide the men's basketball team with a permanent source of scholarship income. Eligible student must be a member of the men's varsity basketball team.

Frank J. Brewer '82 Wrestling Endowed Scholarship

Established by Frank J. Brewer to provide recognition and financial assistance to an outstanding undergraduate student who is a member of the wrestling program at KU. Consideration will be given to students enrolled or planning to enroll at KU who maintains a 2.5 GPA.

Douglas W. Wesner '88 Track & Field Endowed Scholarship

Established to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students who are members in good standing with KU men's or women's track & field program.

Tom and Joanne Grant Scholar Athlete Scholarship

Established to provide recognition and financial assistance to two outstanding student-athletes currently enrolled in KU. The eligible student will have earned a minimum of 60 credits, maintained a GPA of 3.0, and is majoring in Accounting in the College of Business.

Dr. Carl J. Daeufer Scholarship in Teacher Education

Established by Dr. Carl J. Daeufer '53 to recognize outstanding scholastic achievement by a sophomore, junior or senior from Pennsylvania who is majoring in either elementary or secondary education and whose goal is to teach.  The student must be in good academic standing with preference given to a member of the women's or men's basketball team.

Nicholas G. Stevens Scholarship

Established by Mrs. Elizabeth Stevens (wife) and the Library Science Department in memory of Nicholas G. Stevens to provide a scholarship to an entering freshman majoring in library science, and a scholarship to an entering freshman who will be a football player. Eligible students will be a first year student pursuing a major in Library Science, be a freshman on the football team, who demonstrate financial need, and is entering KU with a predicted GPA of 2.5.
