As part of KU's Sesquicentennial celebration, Kutztown University celebrates PSECU Founders Week, Sept. 9-15, 2016.

PARADE AND FIREWORKS TO KICKOFF KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY SESQUICENTENNIAL FOUNDERS' WEEK

Kutztown University will host a Sesquicentennial Parade on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. in the Borough of Kutztown.  The parade will leave the KU campus via College Blvd., head east on West Main Street, north on Greenwich Street, west on West Walnut Street and north on Whiteoak Street to the Kutztown Fairgrounds.

At 100 years-old, Grace Shankweiler, a 1935 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College, will serve as grand marshal. Guido and Susan Pichini, Wyomissing, will follow as co-chairs of the university's Sesquicentennial Celebration. Joining them will be KU President Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, Pa. State Senator Judy Schwank and Kutztown Mayor Sandra Green.

The parade will include multiple groups from KU including the KU Marching Unit, cheer and dance teams. It will feature high school marching bands from Kutztown, Fleetwood, Oley, Hamburg and Wyomissing plus the Hawk Mountain Highlanders and Celtic United pipe bands. 

The Phillie Phanatic and mascots from the Reading Royals and Reading Fightin Phils will join KU's Avalanche the Golden Bear. 

KU football will face Mercyhurst at 5 p.m. with a fireworks display in the stadium immediately following the game.

The day's festivities are a part of Founders' Week being celebrated at KU Sept. 9 - 15. The university officially turns 150 on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. A birthday party with cake, entertainment and the burial of a time capsule, will be held in Alumni Plaza at that time.

AREA ROAD AND PARKING LOT CLOSURES FOR SAT., SEPT. 10

CAMPUS PARKING LOT CLOSURES

E2 Parking Lot - This parking lot will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.  All vehicles must be removed from the lot by that time.  This lot will reopen after the fireworks display on Saturday, Sept. 10. 

ROAD CLOSURES

Please note that there will be several road closures in the Borough of Kutztown on Saturday, Sept. 10, due to the Sesquicentennial Fireworks.

The following road will be closed from approximately 8 - 9 p.m. due to the fireworks display. 

Baldy Street between Normal Avenue and Trexler Avenue

SESQUICENTENNIAL PARADE KUTV COVERAGE

KUTV will provide live and tape-delayed coverage of KU football this weekend, and tape-delayed coverage of the KU Sesquicentennial Parade.  The telecast schedule is as follows:

Saturday: parade replay airs at 2 p.m.; football vs. Mercyhurst live at 5 p.m.
Sunday: Football replay at 6 p.m.; parade replay to follow (approximately 9 p.m.)
Monday: Football replay at 3 p.m.; parade replay to follow (approximately 6 p.m.)
Tuesday: Football replay at noon; parade replay to follow (approximately 3 p.m.)

KUTV can be viewed on the following cable systems:

    • Service Electric Channel 24 and 524 (HD) in Berks County
    • Hometown Utilicom Channel 191 in Kutztown and eastern Berks County
    • Service Electric Channel 266 in the Lehigh Valley.

The KU football telecast will also be carried live by PBS 39.
