Grading for KU 2020 Fall Semester

    FALL 2020 COVID-19 Alternative Grading Policy (Undergraduate)

    For undergraduate students: 

    This alternative grading policy will apply to all courses offered in Fall 2020 with the exception of courses that began and were finished in the first seven weeks of the semester.

    Following final exams, faculty will post grades for each course using A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D, F, FN, I.

    Students will be able to choose on a course-by-course basis, to keep the grade given, or to choose the alternative grading policy. This option will be available for one week after grades have been posted.

    After the window to change closes, there will not be an opportunity to change to another option. Transcript requests will not be fulfilled until the window to choose the alternative grade option has closed.

    Students will have the following options:

    • On a course-by-course basis, students may choose to keep the posted letter grade which will be calculated into the student's GPA.
    • On a course-by-course basis, students may choose to change the grades of A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, or C to a PA (pass) which will earn credit, but will not impact a student's GPA.
    • On a course-by-course basis, students may choose to change the grades of D or F to NC (no credit) which will neither earn credit nor impact a student's GPA.
    • FN grades cannot be changed due to federal reporting (Title IV).
    • Incomplete (I) grades will be given if the faculty member determines that the student be given additional time to complete the course requirements. Students will be able to choose an alternative grading option for one week following the change of grade by the faculty from an I to a letter grade A-F. For students who do not complete the course, the F will remain.

    Students who do not select any alternative grading option will be identified as having selected to keep the posted letter grade.

    Students should consider the impact of the choices made. It is strongly recommended that students on financial aid consult with the financial aid office regarding future aid. It is recommended that students consider the impact of changing a grade to PA on future graduate school plans or career goals. It is also recommended that students who choose a NC grade realize that this may impact time to graduation as the student will not receive credit for the course.

    FALL 2020 COVID-19 Alternative Grading Policy (Graduate)

    For graduate students: 

    There will be no change in the grading policy. If students have difficulty completing a course, they should consult with their faculty and discuss the possibility of an incomplete grade (I).

    Graduate assistants are reminded that good academic standing is required to retain their assistantship.
