Ryan Paynton '12

Ryan Paynton graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Marketing and a minor in communications in 2012. He now lives and works in New York City for Google. Ryan took time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions about his background and what he does now.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?
My hometown is in Wall Township, N.J. Now I live in Manhattan.

Why did you choose Kutztown?
Kutztown's student community along with its beautiful campus is what sold me.

How did you select your major?
Marketing (major) communications (minor) I've always loved business, especially sales and marketing.

How did Kutztown prepare you for life after college?
Kutztown provided a wealth of knowledge from the education, while giving me real life experience from the many clubs and organizations I joined.

How did you get your job at Google and what do you do?
I am a Software Engineering Recruiter - Google NYC. My role is to work with Software Engineering candidates throughout the hiring. This ranges from setting up interviews to negotiating and closing engineers with Google offers. I got my job by networking through fellow Kutztown Alumni!

How does your major apply to what you do in your work?
Marketing and communications directly apply to my work. Selling, communication, negotiation, advertising and creativity skills all tie into my day-to-day work.

What is your favorite memory of your time at KU?
CONNECTIONS! The freshman orientation program is such an incredible start to Kutztown University. Immersing yourself into Kutztown culture can be tough, but connections was a great opportunity for me to meet new people learn about all the great attributes of KU.

What would you tell a prospective student who is considering choosing KU?
Kutztown is such an amazing campus which is full of so many offerings. Being a medium-sized school, you will not be known as a number but an actual student where the university's goal is to help you succeed in life. GO KU!
