PHYSICS SENIOR WINS STATE SYSTEM AWARD
The Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence is conferred upon a graduating senior from one of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities. KU's Caelan Brooks was presented as the 2021 winner at the State System's virtual Board of Governors meeting on Thursday. Brooks, a physics major, marks the second-straight winner for KU and its Department of Physics. Brooks has conducted high quality physics research that has led to innovations in two separate areas of physics: atomic molecular and optical physics and biophysics. Her work has been recognized by multiple awards and by acceptances into some of the top physics doctorate programs in the world. Brooks will continue her education at Harvard University. Read.

ARTS HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL CLASS
The Kutztown University Arts Society announced the six recipients of the new Schaeffer-Sharadin Fellows award, which includes the induction into the inaugural class of the KU Arts Hall of Fame. These inductees highlight the prominence of KU's relationship with the highest caliber artists and arts supporters. This year's inductees include Ellen Finks – KU Faculty Emeriti, Richard Wells – KU Faculty Emeriti, Willis M. Rapp – KU Faculty Emeriti, Eric Schaeffer ’84, Andrew M. Kish III ’07, and Karen TenEyck ’80. A formal induction ceremony will be held virtually at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, on Zoom. The event is free to attend and is open to the community. BIG ART DAY
Mark your calendars for Big Art Day, where three Department of Art alumni come to KU and share their stories. Big Art Day is a longstanding art department tradition where current students can meet alumni, forge connections and ask questions. SHARADIN ART EXHIBITIONS
The Miller Gallery in the Sharadin Arts Building will open the Department of Art Senior Exhibition for a preview from 5-8 p.m. during the KU Presents! outdoor concert by Poor Man's Gambit. Exhibition dates are April 16-26.
Other exhibits open Friday night:
- New Media Gallery (Atrium of Sharadin Arts): "Unfamiliar Hollows" a site-specific installation by freshman in professor Frazier 3D Design class.
- The Atrium Gallery: Solo exhibition of Joey Strain.

SUMMER HOURS
As in past years, KU will initiate summer hours beginning Monday, May 10, the Monday following finals. These hours will remain in effect through Friday, Aug. 20, a week before the start of classes. Summer hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch. Anyone who has a need to maintain the normal winter hours may submit a request through their supervisory line. Approval for such a request will be at the vice-presidential level and should be communicated to Human Resources.
