Announcements

Condolences

On behalf of the Women’s Center, WGS, the KU Foundation and friends of Dr. Ann Gundry, we are saddened to share that Ann passed away peacefully on March 27.   Dr. Gundry taught at KU for 37 years in the department of physical education, until her retirement in 2004.  During her time here, Ann served as the director to the Women’s Center from 1991-2004, and was a founding faculty member of what was then called the Women’s Studies Minor.  Ann created several student scholarships, and was active in the faculty union, APSCUF.  She established the Dr. Constance P. Dent and Dr. Ann T. Gundry Distinguished Speaker Series in collaboration with the Kutztown University Women’s Center and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program, which allowed us to bring Madonna Thunderhawk, Ilyasah Shabazz and Feminista Jones to campus. Ann paved the way for so much of what we do through Allies, FMLA, WGS and both the Women’s Center and LGBTQ+ Resource Center. We are grateful to have known such a remarkable, generous, determined human.  A remembrance reception will be held on Ann’s birthday April 18. Please join us 4 p.m. Monday, April 18, Old Main Concourse to celebrate Dr. Ann Gundry.  RSVP encouraged but not required, to Dina Hayduk, hayduk@kutztown.edu.

Addendum to Religious Holiday Email

Although it was in my draft, I missed another April holiday in yesterday's email.   Easter holidays for Orthodox Christians are April 21-24.  Please also be mindful of Orthodox Christian students, staff, and faculty that may be celebrating and traveling. Thank you.

Autism Awareness Speaker Coming to KU

Did you know April is Autism Awareness Month? The most recent studies have shown that around 2% of the global population is diagnosed with some form of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). As it becomes more common, individuals who are part of the autistic community and those who work closely with them continue to work towards a wider awareness of what autism can look like, since it is different for every individual, as well as towards acceptance for everyone. Ben Hartranft was diagnosed with autism at age two and has lived through the same struggles that many individuals within the autistic community have seen. Through the Eagles Autism Challenge, Ben found a passion for advocating and motivating others and has been using that passion to spread his story--a story of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion for every individual, no matter their differences. Come out to KU’s Schaeffer Auditorium 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 to hear Ben share his story with KU and the Kutztown community. Free tickets are available to the general public, faculty and staff through KU Presents!; and for students on Engage. For more information on Ben, visit his website at: https://www.benergy1.com/
