Schwank Announces $100,000 in State Grant Funding for Keith Haring Fitness Park
Kutztown University will receive $100,000 in state grant funding to support the much-anticipated Keith Haring Fitness Park, thanks to advocacy from State Sen. Judy Schwank, the university announced at a press conference Thursday. The park is set to open this fall.
Kutztown University is partnering with Kutztown Community Partnership (KCP) to bring a world-class, one-of-a-kind Keith Haring Fitness Park to campus to help promote health and wellness in the Kutztown community. The interactive fitness park will be located on the corner of Baldy Street and Normal Avenue, on the KU campus, where Haring's art will be integrated into every element.

Earth Day Tree Planting Event
In recognition of Earth Day, students in the Environmental Biology class at Kutztown University participated in a collaborative effort with the Kutztown Borough Environmental Advisory Commission and the Kutztown Community Partnership to plant 76 trees at Kutztown's North Park. The trees were purchased through a generous grant from Giant Food Stores. Dr. Todd Underwood, biology professor and chair of the Kutztown Borough Environmental Advisory Commission, applied for this grant in collaboration with the Kutztown Community Partnership. Underwood is a leader in building strong ties between KU, the Borough of Kutztown and Kutztown Community Partnership. Nearly 60 Kutztown University students participated in this class-based, service-learning, tree-planting activity. All the trees planted are native to Pennsylvania and were added to contribute to the importance of North Park as a home and habitat for wildlife.
