Kutztown University The Campus History Series 

The new Kutztown University history book will go on sale Monday, Aug. 29, in the KU Campus Store.  The book was compiled by KU students Emma E. Billig and Kayla L. Fusselman. Both students grew up in the area, graduated from Kutztown High School in 2013 and will graduate from KU in 2017. This book serves as the authors' capstone project in the Honors Program.  The book is published by Arcadia Publishing and The History Press.  A book signing will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10, in the KU Campus Store from noon to 3 p.m.

August 18, 1879:  Sylvester Kline Loy is born in Hamburg, Pa.  Loy graduates from the Keystone State Normal School in 1899 and goes on to earn a bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College and a doctorate degree from Johns Hopkins in 1910.  Loy serves as a professor of chemistry at KSNS before being named chief chemist for Standard Oil Corporation and a consultant chemist to the United States Bureau of Mines.  He even goes on to be elected the mayor of Casper, Wyoming.

The final fall 2016 orientation events for freshmen and transfer students are rapidly approaching. Please mark your calendars as we prepare to welcome new students and families to campus to participate in these events!

Wednesday, August 24 - Freshmen/Parent Orientation
Thursday, August 25 - Transfer Orientation

In addition, one of the culminating events each year for new freshmen is fall CONNECTIONS and Convocation which occurs on Sunday, August 28. This event involves meetings with deans and faculty and the convocation ceremony with Dr. Hawkinson and members of the administration.  For more information please contact the CONNECTIONS Orientation Office at 3-4088.  

The Office of Grants & Sponsored Projects is extremely pleased to welcome Ms. Sonya Smith as our new Assistant Director.  Sonya comes to us from the KU Small Business Development Center.  Her skills and experience will be an asset to faculty, staff and students who are or want to be involved in research, scholarship and creative activity through sponsored projects.

Bring your team (family members) and join us for AFSCME open bowling Saturday, August 20, from 2 - 4 p.m. at Heister's Lane, Reading, Pa. Registration is now open for the Kutztown University men's basketball team's seventh annual scholarship golf tournament on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Rich Maiden Golf Course in Fleetwood, Pa. Shotgun start is set for 1 p.m.  Click here for complete information.


The Kutztown University women's basketball team is selling discount cards for $10 that will enable you to save money each time you support a business in Kutztown.  For more information and to order, contact head coach Janet Malouf at or 610-683-4337. Cards will also be sold in the athletics office in Keystone Hall.  Discount cards are valid from August 2016 through June 2017.  See details here.
