High pressure builds in behind yesterday's cold front passage. Conditions will be much more pleasant than the past week. We should expect cooler temperatures and much drier air. Fair skies to boot! Northwesterly winds will keep temperatures in check. High temperature in the upper 70s. Winds northwest at 7-13 mph.
 

 

THE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

August 10, 1882:  José Lorenzo Pesquera is born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.  Pesquera graduates from Keystone State Normal School in 1902 before earning his law degree from West Virginia University in 1904.  He goes on to serve as a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, president of the Agricultural Association of Puerto Rico and is appointed a resident commissioner to serve in the United States Congress.
 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

WORK SCHEDULE 
Effective Monday, August 29, 2016, offices and functions that are currently working on the modified summer schedule will be returning to the normal academic year schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a one hour lunch.  These hours will be in effect through Friday, May 12, 2017.       


NEW TO KU
Please welcome Amy Ridenour, special events coordinator, who begins her career with KU today.     


HEADSHOT PHOTOGRAPHER TOMORROW
The university photographer will be taking headshots tomorrow, Aug. 23, from 8 - 9:30 a.m. in MSU 218.  Any faculty or staff member in need of a photo is welcome to attend.  Photos are taken on a first-come first-served basis and there is no charge for the service.       


FINAL ORIENTATION EVENTS
The final fall 2016 orientation events for freshmen and transfer students are rapidly approaching. Please mark your calendars as we prepare to welcome new students and families to campus to participate in these events!

Wednesday, August 24 - Freshmen/Parent Orientation
Thursday, August 25 - Transfer Orientation

In addition, one of the culminating events each year for new freshmen is fall CONNECTIONS and Convocation which occurs on Sunday, August 28. This event involves meetings with deans and faculty and the convocation ceremony with Dr. Hawkinson and members of the administration.  For more information please contact the CONNECTIONS Orientation Office at 3-4088. www.kutztown.edu/CONNECTIONS      


CLINICAL SERVICES CLOSED TODAY
Clinical Services will be closed Monday, August 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for staff development training.

GOLDEN BEAR ATHLETICS

MEN'S BASKETBALL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Registration is now open for the Kutztown University men's basketball team's seventh annual scholarship golf tournament on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Rich Maiden Golf Course in Fleetwood, Pa. Shotgun start is set for 1 p.m.  Click here for complete information.

 


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DISCOUNT CARDS
The Kutztown University women's basketball team is selling discount cards for $10 that will enable you to save money each time you support a business in Kutztown.  For more information and to order, contact head coach Janet Malouf at malouf@kutztown.edu or 610-683-4337. Cards will also be sold in the athletics office in Keystone Hall.  Discount cards are valid from August 2016 through June 2017.  See details here.
