TODAY'S WEATHER

(Weather forecasts are provided by KU's Dr. Michael Davis and "Monsoon Mike" Regensburger)

High pressure to drift off the New England coast during the day. Sunny skies are expected. Weak low pressure dragging a cold front through the Ohio River Valley could produce a late afternoon or evening thunderstorm. Tropical Depression 8 should pass well to our south but some residual moisture could infiltrate the region. High temperature in the upper 80s. Winds southwest at 5 mph.

THE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

August 31, 1895:  Rubber matting is placed on the floors of the corridors and stairwells of Old Main.  The new padding quiets the noise of the shoes of those passing by, which was apparently a big enough problem that the local media covered it.
