First African American Graduate Presented Kutztown University President's Medal
Bessie Reese Crenshaw ’50, Kutztown University's first African American graduate, was presented with the Kutztown University President's Medal Thursday, Aug. 25, at the President’s house. Crenshaw graduated from Reading High School in 1946 and enrolled in Kutztown State Teachers’ College that fall; she was the only Black student enrolled at the time. In 1950, she became the first African American to graduate from the institution, earning a B.S. in education.
After a warm front passes and stalls out, expect a mostly cloudy morning with possible fog. Skies will clear by afternoon and another warm day is in store. High temperature near 88.

Student Accommodation Letters Are Ready
Students registered with the Office of Disability Services for academic accommodations will be sending their electronic accommodation letters to faculty via your KU email. Please be aware, students are encouraged to discuss their academic accommodation needs with you during the start of the semester. Please take some time to review the accommodation letters you receive and determine with the student how you will provide their approved accommodations. Remember that some students may be self-advocating for the first time; please be patient as students explain their need for accommodations. Contact the DSO at 610-683-4108 if you have any questions or concerns, or would like to schedule a training session.

Professional Development Available from Disability Services
Did you know the Office of Disability Services provides professional development training to offices and groups on campus? Our goal is to share knowledge and information regarding the best ways our campus can include students with disabilities and neurodiverse needs. Our training provides information about creating inclusive spaces, working with students with different types of physical and mental disabilities, and being aware of sensory differences and awareness. If you are interested in receiving professional development through the DSO, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a time.
