Cathryn Pugh and Evan Williams Entomological Society 

Congratulations to Cathryn Pugh and Evan Williams (Department of Biology) for wining first place in the President's Prize student poster competition at the Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America on November 17th in Minneapolis, MN.  They presented their research on the host range of the new invasive spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) in southeastern Pennsylvania.

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

Dec. 2, 1859:  Lancaster County Normal School, established in 1855, is officially recognized as Pennsylvania's first normal school.  The name is changed to Millersville State Normal School.

COMPUTER SCIENCE THESIS PRESENTATION
Allison Seidel, an MS candidate in the Department of Computer Science & Information Technology, will be presenting her thesis, titled "An Examination of Legal Deterrence of Defamatory Cyberbullying," on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at 10 a.m. in 278 OM. The university community and general public are invited to this thesis presentation. Refreshments will follow the presentation and Q&A. COUNSELING LECTURE
The Department of Counseling and Student Affairs and Counselor Connect invites the KU campus community to attend "Cognitive Challenges and Counseling Interventions for Clients with Neurological Disorders," featuring Frankin Brown, Ph.D., assistant professor at Yale University and KU alumni of undergraduate psychology and graduate counseling. ​Please join us Thursday, Dec. 3, from 5-8 p.m., in A.F. 101.

The MSU is pleased to provide access to faculty and staff for a presentation / webinar by Dr. Jaimie Washington, well-known advocate and former student affairs professional.  Dr. Washington will present Racial Climate on Campus: Rapid Response Webinar.

COLLEGE OF VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS FACULTY FIRST THURSDAY
Josh Miller, assistant professor of communication design, will present "The Web is Dead." He will talk about his work, his process, and explain why interactive experiences are the future of web design on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. in Sharadin Arts Building Room 120.  All faculty and students are invited to attend, learn about the work our faculty are doing, and participate in the discussion.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE CONCERT
