Showers in the morning becoming a steady rain by late morning to early afternoon. Temperatures will be unseasonably warm. Flooding will be an issue as we get snow melt and heavy rain throughout the day. High temperature in the upper 50s. East wind at 11-16 mph. Rainfall generally between 1-2".
 

 

THE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

In February 1986 the women's swim team is formed at KU.  The first coach is Ken Fernandez.

CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF THE WOMEN'S CENTER AND GLBTQ RESOURCE CENTER
The search committee for the director of the Women's Center and GLBTQ Resource Center has been working hard since October preparing for the search with HR, reviewing applications, and doing phone interviews. The search committee has identified four candidates to come to campus for interviews. We would like to invite any member of the campus community to attend a public presentation by each candidate with Q&A. The dates and time are as follows:

DOG THERAPY
Dog Therapy is back! Come and get some puppy love on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. in MSU 218. There will be several dogs in attendance, so there will be plenty of tail wags and sloppy kisses to go around. This event is open to students, faculty and staff. Please encourage your students to come and make sure you stop by too!

LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
The 2016 Lunar New Year celebration will be held in MSU218 at 6 - 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8. KU Students, faculty, staff and their family and friends are invited to enjoy free Asian foods and music, dazzling acrobat performance, Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting art, and participate in fun activities and win prizes. This event is sponsored by Association of Campus Events (ACE), Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), KU Multicultural Center, and MSU advisory board.

COLLEGE OF VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS FACULTY FIRST THURSDAY!
Assistant professor Keith Massie, Department of Communication Studies, will present "The Visual Rhetoric within Dark Summoner: An Analysis of Depictions within a Popular Smartphone App Game" on Thursday, Feb.4, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Sharadin Arts Building Room 120. The current research employs a mixed methodology to examine the videogame app Dark Summoner, while console games and MMORPGs have been studied by scholars (e.g., Castronova, 2005; Taylor, 2006; Frasca, 2003), less attention has been given to mobile app games. Please join assistant professor Keith Massie to learn more about this current research.

All are invited to attend, learn about the work our faculty and doing, and participate in the discussion.

KUBoK NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH TRAINING TONIGHT
KUBoK Neighborhood Watch will be holding a training session Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union, room 183. KUBoK is a coalition consisting of community members and Kutztown University students, staff, and faculty who work with the Kutztown Borough Police Department to create a safer community and promote awareness. If you are available on any Thursday, Friday, or Saturday evenings, we would love to have you volunteer! Budget Rally Sign Making Event: Feb. 4, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., Old Main Concourse Left Lobby
APSCUF-KU is hosting "Get on the Bus! Sign Making Event" on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., in the Old Main Concourse Left Lobby. Come out and join fellow APSCUF-KU members, and students prepare signs for the upcoming Feb. 8 Budget Rally in Harrisburg! APSCUF-KU will be providing all materials, as well as enticing snacks and beverages! This is a great opportunity to model corporeal engagement in participatory democracy, and impress upon students, and fellow faculty members the power within collective action. We hope to see you there.
