Julia Snyder (left), BSED Spanish Education (2017), will present her Honors Capstone Research Project "Strike While the Iron's Hot" on Feb. 12, 2016, at Northeast Conference for Teaching of Foreign Languages in New York City. Under the supervision of her academic advisor, Dr. Nancy Zimmerman (right), Julia conducted IRB approved research and interviewed teachers and administrators in school districts with and without language immersion programs to better understand why these highly successful programs are not more numerous.

THE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

In February, 1881, Keystone State Normal School alumnus D. Nicholas Schaeffer is appointed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
The 2016 Lunar New Year celebration will be held in MSU218 from 6 - 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8. KU Students, faculty, staff and their family and friends are invited to enjoy free Asian foods and music, dazzling acrobat performance, Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting art, and participate in fun activities and win prizes. This event is sponsored by Association of Campus Events (ACE), Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), KU Multicultural Center, and MSU advisory board.

CLARINET RECITAL
The Department of Music will present a Faculty Clarinet Recital on Tuesday, February 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre (Schaeffer). Dr. Michelle Kiec will be joined by Dr. Jeremy Justeson (saxophone) and Dr. Maria Asteriadou (piano) to perform works by Bassett, Sokolović, Kreiger, and Wanamaker. Join us for an evening of modern music on the clarinet. Admission is free.

MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION
The Kutztown University Mock Trial Team will be competing in the American Mock Trial Association Regional Mock Trial Competition at Penn State University, February 5-7, 2016.
