Celebrate Black History Month 2022 at Kutztown University

February is Black History Month. Established in 1976, Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history, science, mathematics, literature, art, music and culture. Kutztown University celebrates the month with events for the entire community.

Let's Talk About: Mental Health and the Black Community

In honor of Black History Month, join undergraduate assistants, social work interns and graduate assistants from the Kutztown University Women's Center and LGBTQ+ Resource Center to discuss the topic of mental health as it relates to the Black community. Throughout this interactive discussion, we will discuss topics such as mental health stigmatization, generational trauma, Black-focused therapeutic techniques, cultural humility and more. Let's start the conversation on Black Mental Health together 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, in 218 McFarland Student Union.

Nominations Open for the Wiesenberger Faculty Award

Nominations are open for the 2022 Arthur & Isabel Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. Any current full-time, tenured faculty member at Kutztown University is eligible for nomination. Nominations must be received by Friday, April 1. This award is presented each year to a faculty member who has served KU in a manner that sets them apart from faculty colleagues. The recipient will be announced at the Faculty-Staff Convocation and Celebration Friday, Aug. 26. Please submit nomination forms to Erin Gautier at gautier@kuf.org.

Kutztown Pipe Band

Are you interested in learning to play the bagpipes? The Kutztown Pipe Band offers free introductory bagpipe lessons to KU faculty, staff and students as well as local community members. In-person group lessons start the first week of the semester on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Experienced pipers and drummers are also invited to join the band. Trans and Nonbinary Support Group

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center offers a Transgender and Nonbinary Support Group.  This Support Group is a "closed" group open only to students that identify as trans*, non-binary or are actively questioning whether or not they are.  Please encourage your students to email lgbtqresourcecenter@kutztown.edu for meeting dates and times.

Free Walk-in Math Tutoring

The Department of Mathematics offers free walk-in peer tutoring for students in mathematics classes from MAT 17 through and including the Calculus sequence. Please encourage your students to take advantage of this valuable resource. Tutors are available 2-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in 218 Lytle Hall.

Teaching Students with Visual Impairments Workshop

This session will focus on accommodations that are typically in place for students with blindness and other visual impairments. In addition to accommodations, we will also discuss some considerations when teaching, lecturing and developing course materials.
